A Friendly Warning to Gamblers From Richie Richardson

why over think it?

If its called the "Louis Roberts Action & Entertainment Award", why not shorten it to the Louis Roberts Entertainment award? Since "entertainment" is a broad term, with many interpretations, there shouldnt be any issues.

Well stated and right on the money!
Brings back memories of the old Stardust Tournaments pool action out there when Danny Jones, Shorty, and Eddie Kelly were drilling almost anyone in sight.
ALL casino games are a trap. But pool players will line up at the dice tables to make that silly "Field Bet".......(because there are more numbers to win on......)

Not if you are good at counting and the game is blackjack although a lot of places have gotten wise and are shuffling before they get deep into the cards.

Yup, as noted, keeping the word "Action" out of the name of the award is something we might have to do. We came up with two or three obvious possibilities. Maybe a poll is in order. We'll take the results under advisement.

  • Louie Roberts Award (quite simple - kinda like the Heisman Trophy)
  • Louie Roberts AE Award (stands for Aardvark Engineering, since it's available....)
  • Louie Roberts Entertainment Award (Eric.)
  • Louie Roberts Heart Award (Watchez)
  • The Louie (like the Oscars or the Tony Award )

But renaming the award is probably the simplest of the things that needs to happen.

Freddie

I like the first choice too.

Let's face it, we all know what the award is for and how to win it. If it doesn't make sense to the masses, no biggy. It's a subculture thing.

Used to play in a room across the street from the police station. No gambling, if they saw money on the table you were kicked out. We would put the money in bible tracts and everything was cool.

Flash. I was working in Springfield Mass in 1980. I used to stop in at a magic Shop on the way home from work.

One of the Magicians there did that nickel/dime switch on me one night.

I doubt that was a Gaffed coin. I have my reason to believe that it wasn't.

If you remember how to do it, I would appreciate knowing.

I seriously regret not buying that one. Over the years, I have asked many Magicians
what they think that trick was and none had any idea.

The problem is the guys who most need to tone it down and keep it on the down low won't heed the warning and will do EXACTLY what they want to do at the derby. Not to mention a lot folks enjoy their antics quite a bit!! I like the name change on the Award, seems like a good idea to me.

Now if they put a sports book in the corner and figured out a way to charge some juice................All would be golden. As long as they get their cut. Damn.

True, and ironically, its not even gambling unless a third party is getting a vig. Its merely a private wager which isnt illegal at all.

Not true. According to Indiana law, for games of skill, You can wager on yourself and your performance, but it would be illegal to wager on the performance of someone else.

I was talking about wagering on yourself. :) i never even considered folks betting on others. I guess over the years that notion was erased from my mind. Ive seen too many moves by too many people to even think in those terms.

I'm sure you are right about that.

Well what I'm going to do is tell them at the desk and tell a casino host I'm there for the tournament and if the Gaming Commission needs to stick their nose into the tournament area instead of being on the boat where they belong...I'll just take take my gaming, entertainment and vacation money elsewhere from now on.

Meaning other than a Caesars property!

If more than a few people did this it would mean something.

Gaming Commissions are state agencies working for the citizens of that state and are "supposed" to protect the public from the casinos cheating the public. The casinos have their own security to protect themselves.

Personally I think it's a crock that someone is saying the Gaming Commission is involved, they have nothing to lose or gain overstepping their boundary away from the boat/casino and into the hotel and tournament area.

Now, I can see the Horseshoe starting this crap to try and scare everyone from gambling amongst themselves and get people on the boat instead.

I think they're a bunch of fools anyway...why haven't they ever tried to do some Derby City Classic promotions to get bodies on the boat? Give a free drink ticket to tournament players and spectators good on the boat, a Derby City Classic poker tournament at midnite, daily free play to anyone entered in the pool tournament, etc etc.

They know what everybody is there for. It's not like a normal convention where people will normally drift over to the boat.

They saw the year of the ice storm when people couldn't drive the roads and get to the property that all of us pool players were the only ones there because we were trapped and they ran low on food and drink, it was because of all of us.

We know their job is to try and get in our pocket but they're doing a piss poor job of it.

Richie ask me to share this information with everyone.

Don't shoot the messenger.

I spoke with Greg Sullivan , the gaming commission is not happy with someone winning an award for gambling, The gaming commission considers this illegal, Harrahs Casino is concerned because it could cost them their licsence ! There will be a presence of the gaming commission so be careful with your side bets, I don't want to see any of us get our money taken or go to jail or shut all of DCC! -- THANKS AND PLEASE SHARE THIS POST !!! RICHIE

The most amazing thing about this is that Richie and you are such good friends that out of all the people in the U.S. he chose you to spread the word and you can't even spell his name even though it's included in his post.

The 2nd most amazing thing in this thread is that nobody, for quite awhile, seemed to know the duties of the gaming commission.

Wrong again, pj ......the information came from Greg.

This was posted on Facebook, so he actually "chose" thousands of people, not just me. It clearly says please "share this post" in hopes of informing gamblers of the potential issues with the Feds.
