Scott Lee was passing through my area and contacted me mostly to meet and greet each other since we have never met other than on the net. Lessons weren't part of the plan but playing a little pool was a possibility, just a social evening. I started scheming, um laying plans, several days in advance. If this should turn into an evening's battle I needed an edge. First move, I fed him first. A full belly slows a person down and I figured all of his blood in his digestive system trying to break down a big wad of dead cow and a handful of shrimp should leave little blood for his brain to work with and give me a half-step on him!
As expected from our internet conversations, Scott is a very pleasant guy to be around and talk with. He kept my record intact. After two decades of first meeting people on the net I have yet to meet anyone that wasn't even better in person. The first few times I met somebody after talking to them on the net awhile I wondered if the person would be a real stinker in person. It has never happened and I'm starting to be pretty confident it never will. I can chalk up another great person first met VIA internet. With full belly and after a couple hours of pleasant conversation we were now ready to see what we could stir up. We passed by Rusty's which I think Greg, one of Scott's former student's, owns but Scott was curious about Buffalo's since JoeyA and I often have good things to say about that hall and the owner Buffalo. Diamond tables and a very well ran place, nothing not to like there.
Arriving at Buffalo's the first thing I see when slinking in the back door, oops using the rear entrance, is JoeyA! He is skulking in a high traffic area with pleasant scenery waiting to pounce on an unsuspecting victim. Well no, being our JoeyA he is waiting to play a gentlemanly game of billiards with someone of equal inclination. As soon as I saw Joey I made a beeline thataway and reintroduced Scott and Joey. They had met way back when but it had been years ago I believe. I knew things were going to get good in a hurry. Joey is very sharp and ever eager to learn from anyone; Scott despite me doing my best to not let this become a busman's holiday is hardwired down at a genetic level to teach. He loves it. The conversation and exchange of information was great. We eventually snagged a table and we did a little shooting purely to look at strokes and such. As suspected, Scott and I are pretty close to on the same page about how things should work although it doesn't always seem like it trying to communicate with purely the written word. We were all so busy talking no games were played. Just as well, while cleverly stuffing Scott with steak and shrimp I had overindulged a bit on fish and oysters!
A fun evening. Always a great time with JoeyA and a treat to have Scott in town. I'm looking forward to when he passes back this way again. A big thanks to JoeyA too, he covered the drinks and table time.
