Maybe it's just me but it kind of made me laugh when he said "Is there anyone who stands out in this tournament for you? Because we've seen consistency and inconsistency in every match".

They have consistently seen consistency except when the players were being inconsistent, I guess.

He usually gives a pretty accurate assessment of the more obvious stuff on the table, but when he talks about the players and their abilities it's a little rough.

i am consistently inconsistent lol. some of the shit he says makes me feel embarrassed for him, if that makes any sense.

All commentators make blunders now and then.

One of my favs is from snooker commentator Ted Lowe back when a lot of people still watched in black and white.

"He's playing the green, and for those of you watching in black and white, it's the ball on the side cusion just behind the red."

Jim Wych... lol.

I scream at the TV everytime he says 'break-off'.

"WHAT THe FRAK IS A BReakOFF JIM?!?!?!?!??!"

Oh, you mean Efren is about to break the balls. Thanks.

It's like in that movie Mean Girls, quit trying to make 'Break-Off' happen Jim.

No one's perfect. Sure, he says dumb sh*t on occasion, but all commentators do. Imagine being on live TV in front of millions of people...I'm sure we'd all say embarrassingly stupid stuff.

For the record, he's also one of the nicest guys in the industry.

I think it has to do with the fact that Jim tries to sound excited and enthusiastic all the time. When he tries to come up with dramatic and exciting lines in the commentary, it's really easy for him to blunder and make mistakes. So the occasional "gem" is to be expected.

Now, I personally don't care much for the dramatic style, but I understand that some people do and I think Jim does reasonable job with the style. But a person that doesn't like all the drama in the commentary is going to get annoyed by individual lines that don't necessarily make sense.

I like working with Jim. He is an easy guy to get along with, and very sincere in how he acts and conducts himself. An honorable man in other words. As far as his commentary goes, he is great to work with. He doesn't hog the mic, making it hard to make points that you think are important. He allows you to complete your thought without interrupting you. He also communicates well with his fellow commentator during the course of the match. He knows pool, don't think he doesn't. He may express himself in ways that seem funny to you and I, but he also makes some very good points.

I enjoy his enthusiasm. Makes it easy for me to remain low key in contrast, which suits me better. And Jimmy can do any job around the TV set. He does interviews, openings, closes, and dialogues with other commentators, equally well. And he does it seamlessly and flawlessly. The guys a pro! Mitch is too, even though his knowledge of pool is somewhat more limited then Jim's.

I think Jim could really improve as a commentator if he said "GOOOOOOOAAAAAALLLL" after every 9 ball.

say what?

Jimmy's comments are heavy influenced by British snooker.
His combination of N American pool lingo and 'snooker-speak' give him
a unique view point which to me is very refreshing.
Waddya want,a clone?

naw I guess I don't want a clone of anyone. And I do like him better than a lot (including Mitch). He sounds like a class act so I feel a little bad for poking fun at him. His gems aren't that common and I can listen to him for long stretches without getting annoyed, which isn't true of some commentators.

the drama he works into the commentary is good if it keeps people listening. Me, I'll watch whether someone's talking or not.

That he is - and he does A LOT for the game - especially in Canada. Jim's passion for the game is second to none.

Good post

I'm not sure how many people know this but, on the world stage playing snooker, he had a career high ranking of 17th. He has been to the semi finals in the World Championships.

He has also won the Canadian Snooker Championships twice, over players such as Cliff Thorburn, Kirk Stevens, Bill Werbinuk, Alain Robidoux and Jim Bear along with many other great snooker players who never made as big of splash on the world stage.

Despite being such a good player, you rarely ever hear him refer to his playing pedigree during broadcasts. He is generally self-deprecating.

years ago before I met him, I made a post complaining about one term he used often, it bugged me. I wont bring it up as the problem has been cured.

I didnt know him at the time and wasnt aware he reads AZ, the next day I noticed he didnt use the term one time, and then I connected the dots and realized he read what I wrote, I could have been nicer. You would be amazed who reads here and never posts-I figured that out the last couple years, the hard way in Jims case.

So about 2-3 months later somehow Jim ends up at my house with a few players and others. I told him the story about the post and him changing that one line, that we all agreed on in chat sucked. I didnt know he was from Canada so its a local term up there. I said "I'm the guy who made that post" I was emabrassed but I wasnt going to side step it.

We became pretty good friends that night at my house, I really like him alot, And I got some good news tonight, he may be moving to Vegas, I hope he does so he can drill me playing snooker.

you couldnt ask for a better person after you get to know him, and thats easy to do. as he is a pleasant gentalman.

OK by the way the term that bugged me was "He slotted in that ball" thats a canidian snooker term, when he was saying it during a 9 ball match over and over, it became irrating and I felt bad for him cause thats just not part of American pool lingo, It might slip out once in a while and so what he is a great guy, he explained thats a common term where he was playing snooker, So I learned something and madea good friend.

Man I hope he moved to Vegas, we will have agreat time.
