This is an interesting sequence by Oliver Ortmann in the final game of World 14.1 Championship 2007. The rolls had been tough for him throughout the game, he cleverly made something out of nothing in this shot!

That's a gutsy shot - shooting your only potential break ball (the 1 ball) and then getting the perfect tap on the 5 to manufacture it...

Just by the layout you can see that he was probably having trouble breaking the 4 from the 5 earlier in the rack - he was obviously leaving the 8 as the key ball and the 1 as the break ball. This is a perfect example of a champion dealing with a situation when it seems as if nothing is going right for you - Oliver just created an opportunity instead of waiting for one.

Yes, this was an exceptional shot by Ortmann. Finding the speed was no simpler than finding the angle, and he managed both very accurately. Superb!

Maybe, but he could have gotten either a long shot to the corner or a different shot on the eight. One of those situations where you have to make a champion's shot to continue, and it turned out well.

Wow, that's a champions touch. I am assuming he did this because the 8 would not go in reality...or the 4/5 were more tied up. As diagramed, the 8 does go and the 4/5 cluster isn't too bad...so this is how I would have expected him to do it.

I thought the same thing when I first looked at this situation. As diagrammed, the 4 will go - so will the 8. The actual layout must have been much tighter than that for Oliver to be forced to shoot that great shot.

You might want to use "SavePage" after you have made changes on any page. Also, it is always a good idea to check all the pages before you export the layout data ..

From where I was sitting I couldn't determine whether the 8 would go or not. Also, the 4 and 5 might be closer. It was really close. Maybe one day there will be this new version of CueTable that will draw up shots directly from videos.

Also, keep in mind things always look easier on a layout than in real life.

Boy, don't I know that! Many have told me that my 10B drill looks easy (based on the cuetable I posted a while back). They later tell me that they set it up on a real table and failed miserably.

And this layout view with no perspective never really exists in real life. However, it is an idea we can all share and relate. Pretty interesting.

I'm sure that the 8-4 order was not possible. He had to play his break shot. I guess this match will be on propool soon so we can see a little better, but I think there was no overhead camera. As I vaguely recall, the cue ball just passed the 8 on the way to the 9.
