A Letter from Mike Dechaine

Who is this guy... Who are his sponsors and where can I buy their stuff?!

I haven't always liked your responses, but you've got the cajones to come on here and man up about your behaviour. This sting may be a helping hand in shaping your future.

Not sure if you already do, but.. maybe working out could alleviate some of the pent up emotional energy?

By the way if any of you were aware of the mountains of shi t that Mike has gone through in the past few years you may understand his attitude. Do you think aging , washed up and wannabe pros welcome a player of his talents into the tournament scene? Look when you become one of the top tier players, everybody below you moves down the list. Some of those guys can only resort to needling and backstabbing when their games can't hold up to his.

So in case anybody doesn't know it ...Mike Dechaine is the number 2 rotation player in the USA behind SVB. If you think anybody else deserves that spot I say bet...please.

Mike made his bed and he has to lay in it I applaud Mark for making the right choice of leaving the cry babies at home where they belong ,

Mike,

Well said young Superstar. You have become a real credit to the game, your sponsors and your fans.

Now that you have truly hit that level of talent that is world class you seem to acknowledge that your demeanour in terms of responsibility to sponsors and fans must also grow and I applaud you for the effort that you are putting into this; well done young man.

All the best,
Jerry

Great post Mike! I've been one that's been pulling for you ever since the first time you played at the US Open, you've been nothing but nice to me & my family. I've developed a lot of respect for you as well since seeing how you respond to people on here & don't fall into the trap of getting into it with them. You are definitely one to watch in the coming years, I expect to continue to see great things from you!

Most of the greatest champions of all time were crybabies. So what? This isn't supposed to be a popularity contest. It's a competitive game of skill where the spoils go to the victor.

Keep dumbing down pool and you may not like the end result. I want to see the best playing. Not being benched for exaggerated interpersonal issues. You should go on the Dr. PHIL show and take up basket weaving.

Nice Job!

Mike,

Great response! Keep up the dedication. By way of informing the AZ communitity; I met Mike at Stix and Stones in Abington MA. (great place!!) He was absolutely a class act, allowd me to shoot some pol with him, gave me pointers and never forgets to acknowledge me wherever we see each other. He is passionate about the game!! Give him the chance to demonstrate improvement and then become one of our representatives.

John

I thought it best to let a little time pass from when Mark Wilson announced his picks for the players he'll consider to be on this year's Mosconi Cup team.

To say my not making his list stung would be one of the biggest understatements ever.

There has been a lot of speculation as to why I was excluded but I think at this point, those reasons matter much less than the fact that I didn't make it on.

I have always been a player who wears his emotions on his sleeve for all to see. I am a fierce competitor and I feel like I have a real chance to win in every match I play. I know that I can be hard on myself, and others, during the heat of competition. I'm 26 years old.

Everyone has to face disappointments in their lives and I'm no different. I am learning, however, that how we respond to adversity can help define who we are. I'm working on better ways to channel my emotions toward the positive.

My plan going forward will be to stay positive while I keep trying to play the best pool of my life.

A big thank you to all who have supported me and to those who might not have, to them I say please keep an eye on me and maybe I will earn your support, as well. I promise I will try hard. I also want to thank Snookers, RI and OB cues, thank you guys for giving me a chance.

And the other biggest understatement ever:

I love pool!

Sincerely,
Mike Dechaine

What an excellent , classic post.
MD, I seen you play when you were a regional favorite and knew you had something going on then. Shortly after, you became a monster, taking almost everything in the Northeast. You have come a long way in a short period of time.
Now you are on the World stage. Having talent here is about more than TALENT; you need to have HUMILITY as well. Your post above tells the world that you know this now, and it is time to move forward. Your future is in YOUR hands. There will always be haters, and fans alike; that comes with the territory.
I wish you ALL THE BEST in future endeavors !!

Mike,
I am a fan of Earl but if you keep playing like you have been one can never tell. Your darn good, #2 in USA 10 ball. I hope all the tours let you rack your own so you don't drive other players crazy with how fussy you are. I have been watching you break 10 ball and understand why you are so fussy. You have the 2nd best break in the game, Shane #1. You deserved another shot at The Mosconi Cup.
Good Luck,
Ray

Classy post Mike.

We don't know each other, not that I am someone to know, but I have heard that you also take losing real hard after the fact, almost becoming reclusive in your hotel room for a day or more if you do lose. Since you are trying to work on things, I hope I can suggest you work on having a short memory. The great ones in basketball learn how to forget about the game winning shot they missed, in baseball they forget about striking out with the game on the line or blowing a save in the ninth inning, in football they forget about the field goal they missed or interception they threw.

This is what makes them not only great players but great teammates. Something that can only lead to succcess, especially in a team event that is played over several days such as the Mosconi Cup.

I hope you have not only taken the time here to publicly state your intentions but also take the time to reach out to Mark Wilson to learn what it will take to get in on the selection past the initial analysis of all potential players next year. Also take the time to reach out to the current members of the USA Mosconi Cup and give them your support.

Do you honestly think that someone's behavior would not keep them off a team wearing a American flag ,, if you do ,, you need serious help

Great advice right there. Some days you kill it and some days you choke. Some days you blast off and some days you're just smoke.

I like to joke with Mike but I'll say this, he's a friend. He's a good guy and if the people who dislike him got to know him, they would like him. He certainly struggles with his emotions and speaks before thinking at times but the guy loves pool and is great for the game. I believe he should have been the 2nd name chosen for the cup team, as he's the 2nd best American player. Also, dude's got a hell of a mellon.

...together are going to take you a long way in life. It's one thing to be very young. It's quite another to be lucid, honest, and candid with yourself to *know* you're still very young, and still learning (and still have considerable time and room for learning more).

I love pool!

Sincerely,
Mike Dechaine

That is indeed a huge understatement. If you didn't love pool, I'm sure you would've been "out" and found something better to do long ago.

Keep plugging, Mike. Keep your options open, stay sincere with yourself, and don't ever lose the ability to step outside of yourself to honestly critique events in your life. It only makes you better, every day!

Fist bump,
-Sean

Mountains is sh't;) I ask you this, if you yourself is building the moutain of sh't, does it count towards you of against you?

Mike is an excellent player, no doubt about it! But he wears his emotions on his sleeve! When he learns to control himself, dedicate the time, and treat people accordingly, maybe then he will shine like a champion! Yes, he's winning, but he's not a champion, "YET"! In order to become a champion, he needs to start acting like one! And it seems now he is begining to understand!

What is a champion??? Efren Reyes and Earl Strickland! Is Mike either of those 2? NO!!! Your next comment will be look at Earl and his antics!!! Your right, look at them, look real close!!! After you look real close, put Mike's and Earl's accomplishments side by side! What do you see??? Exactly!!! I'm not condoning Earl's behavior, but if Mike wants to be the best, he's got a lot of work in front of him! And as much as I'm NOT a fan of Mike, I truly believe he has the ability to to make it happen! He needs heart, smarts, and ability! Ability, he has!! Will he gain the heart and the smarts??? That's the million dollar question:)

One more comment, to all of those that are talking sh't about Mark Wilson, first off, he's been around pool before Mike was born! Second, he made the last shot winning 9-ball on the first MC! All of you who are talking down about Mark, please, tell us all how much you have done for pool and your great wins, and the champions you have beaten in tournaments!!! Go ahead, tell us, let us all listen to your great stories of greatness;) all of you who are talking down about Mark are just "stupid"! Yes, STUPID, because you have no clue what his game plan is! You haven't listened, agree, or disagree, you need to learn that sometimes, change is a great thing!

Some of you are say it's a mistake Mike is not on the MC! I agree partly! Yes, he should be on the MC if it was decided upon ability ONLY! But it's not, it's about sportsmanship as well! Mike has proven to have the ability to win, but lacks the sportsmanship! He doesn't conduct himself like a champion should! So, with Marks plan, Mike is out! It's simple!!! Don't dwell over it and cry your guy didn't make it! It's done! Start rooting for your country to win!!! USA USA USA USA USA

Great post Mike! We all mature at different levels in our lives and it seems you are on the right path!

Stroke can we please bet something on the MC. You think passing over the most talented players and singing camp fire songs is gonna get it done? Please bet me I will bet my 1000 to your 500.

I know next you will say that you don't bet and how it makes you a better person. Please prove me wrong and bet. I just love free money.

We are the underdogs no matter who's on the team ,, let's remember if Mike can't shark the racker or rack his own he loses his advantage
