Okay...I'll be the admitted "dummy" here...it's obviously not a full-sized table...but I am curious to learn about it...any information on this table???

Wow, What a PROJECT!

Doug Patrick (the GREAT cuemaker) took on this special project for me, and did a magnificent job with a full restoration on this Prohibition era table (ca 1931).

I could not be happier with the result. Simply superb in every way. And completely functioning coin mech assembly for the original clay balls and cue sticks (being redone by Doug). Doug ran into 20-30 very real obstacles during this restoration, and approached each predicament calmly, thoroughly and with great care for the end result. He cut no corners, anywhere, and I am very, very pleased.

By the way, with the manner in which he carefully did this restoration, you can easily see why his cues are in such demand, both locally and around the country. If you call him about a cue, you will find him very easy to speak with, and I highly recommend his cues. (618)-709-2615.

Regarding these early tables:

When Prohibition came into effect in the late 1920`s, pool rooms disappeared in several states (Texas, Tennessee, etc). A way around the Prohibition laws was found by reducing table size, introducing a coin mechanism, etc, and the tables then came under the laws for mechanical slots and trade stimulators.

A cottage industry arose with over a dozen or so table manufacturers of these very unique, small, perfectly functioning pool tables. Some had 6 pockets, some came with 8 pockets and some even had 10 pockets. Very unique, heavy, not toys, extremely high on the cool factor. Just like Brunswicks of the day, some of these tables were relatively plain, while some were very ornate.

I have 14 of these tables, and have about 12 different ones. Some plain, some fancy; probably have about all types that were made, but don`t know for sure as these are very hard to find. I use them to display some of my cue collection.

------------------- I AM LOOKING FOR MORE OF THESE TABLES, SO IF YOU HAVE ONE OR KNOW OF ONE, I AM A VERY INTERESTED BUYER.-------------------

Cues On Display...........

This picture shows how I display cues on these small Prohibition Era tables............

I also have clear lexan acrylic lids that I have made for me that exactly fit the playing surface of each table, and provide a cover for cues being displayed. The lids are 5 inches high and add to the overall effect very nicely.

--------------AGAIN, STILL LOOKING FOR MORE OF THESE SMALL POOL TABLES-----------------

Playing Surface...........

Neat! What is the size of the playing surface?

The playing surface varies slightly on theses tables, depending on the manufacturer, etc.

You can see by the picture I posted above this post about how big the tables are.

Will...thanks for sharing the info on these tables and showing the additional pictures...I knew I'd seen them somewhere before but couldn't clear the mental cobwebs...it was in a thread from you showing those tables used as "displays" for your cues!!!

I love AZ...so much freakin' knowledge...and to those who don't frequent AZ, it's the kind of knowledge that seems "trivial"...but for those of us who are addicted to this forum, it's "priceless"!!! :p

Will...thanks again!

Special Thanks............

thanks everyone for the kind words. This was a great very trying project. I am very happy Will had me do this!!

Doug,

Again, special thanks to you for all the effort and diligence you put into this restoration. I know how much you "have on your plate", and for you to take this on is very much appreciated.

I could not be happier with the finished result!

If anyone has been contemplating a Patrick Cue, I recommend you call Doug and discuss your ideas.
