there are more elephants alive today since record keeping started in around the later 1800's, sure in some war torn areas the elephants are gone, african elephants kill many people every year, i have lived in Zimbabwe for about 6 months and know whats going on, i didnt get my info from sappy TV channel telling you to donate your $$$ to the WWF to save the elephants, I have shot 14 of them, I was almost killed once, in contrastthe Asian elephants are docile animals and shoukldnt be hunted as there is no risk or hunt-you would just walk up and shot it, i have never just walked up to an elephant and shot it, the african Govts are very aware of how many elephants thet are and protect them, some of th $$$ you pay to shoot one goes into anti-poaching efforts, no protein in africa goes to waste, elephant meat is good, most of it is a bit tough but when you know the right cuts its great. harvesting ivory to them is like peaches in Georgia, they dont cut down the trees nor do the africans over hunt the elephants as they know they need the resource for years to come, a good elephnt hunt plus a few other animals costs $50,000 to 125,000 for a 30 day hunt, i have been on 7 hunts. Its african countrys main resource for forex (outside $$$$). American TV is playing on peoples emotions and grabbing the cash, its a scam. Go live there like I did and you'll see first hand what i'm talking about, i wasnt oin a hotel, rather a crude camp in the middle of no where, it can take over a month to find a masture bull with big tusks, for every elephant you see perhaps one is shootable, the concession operators can get into deep shit if a client shoots a jumos(young male elephant).
there are whearhouses if ivory in Zim and sometimes they auction it off other times they burn it, they control the market on ivory like the oippenheimer family who owns debeers in the diamond trade, its a cold cruel world out there, but not infront of a TV 12,000 miles away.
