A Lot Of Missing Posters

There are dozens of the good posters gone or posting a LOT less in the last few months. I can't see how the economy is to blame unless they use to post from work and have lost their jobs. As far as people being sick of flaming, it has been a lot worse in the past. Can it be that we are out of things to talk about in pool?

Why do you think there are less and less people posting and coming on AZ lately? Johnnyt

My guess

Having to sift through all of the political threads has detered some to visit not as often as in the past.

But that's in the non-pool related forum...right? I'm talking the main pool forum. Johnnyt

This isn't the issue. Unemployment is up just over 1% from a year ago.

There just aren't any good threads to contribute to.

People are out looking for jobs, as many American are out of work.

Lack of quality threads, life just takes precedence sometimes, lack of quality threads, gets boring sometimes, lack of quality threads, bashing of other posters, lack of quality threads............

Oh, and did I mention, lack of quality threads???

:D

Russ.....

Whether I'm one you would consider a "good poster" or not, I've just been a little more busy at work. That and I haven't seen a topic that caught my attention in a while. Also I've been playing more so my pool addiction has been at bay without the use of the forum.

Johnny, I think that sometime there are the same old topics on here and not that I am a good poster, I have got tired of making the same old points as I have in many other threads.
I will give you an example, if I se a thread that says "How can we make pool popular again" or "why does golf get so much more $$ than pool" I tend to ignor them as I know that is is going to be the same old stuff as it has been for a while.
This could actually be a mistake because I would like for someone to come up with a great idea to make pool a more recognised sport. However after a day or so of half the posts giving their ideas and the other half saying "pool is dead because of its image" it never goes anywhere. None of these (some) great ideas never actually happen. Seems almost like a waste of time.
I guess if I feel this way then there are alot of others who share my thoughts on this. Johnny, I am not sure if there is a answer to this but I tell you what scares me is that if the posters on here who are to the best of my knowledge pool and billiards enthusiasts are getting a bit bored then how the hell are we supposed to get new people involved in the game? Of course, I could be way off on all this.

Then again it could be people sick of bad spelling and grammar :)

If you been around forums long enough, everything goes in cycles and you get tired of the same topics over and over and over, and the personality conflicts, and the cliques. New people come on with legitimate questions that are new to them but worn out and tiresome to you. So you become a lurker waiting for some new topic, or heaven forbid, some information of instructional value. I apologize for being cynical and jaded. That's why I lurk and rarely post. I have nothing but admiration for really long term posters who stick it out in order to help new members.

I think it is simple really and has nothing to do with the economy, flaming, or anything that dramatic.

People stop posting frequently for 2 reasons:
1. The are busy elsewhere, upswing at work, new hobby, etc.
2. They are bored with the forum. The thrill is gone baby.

I think it is as simple as that. Participants come and go.

I'm married to a Polish-American woman. You might find that that activity starts to taper off after a while too. :)

Azb is a victim of it's own growth. Aside from gossip and tournament results/announcements, there is nothing new for us oldtimers. We've seen the Nickname thread 8 times, the "no wonder pool cant make it" thread 50 times and the "why cant women play as well as men?" thread 12 times and countless other multis as well. The newbies get excited but the oldtimers are worn out by it.

It is a shame but I see a couple of posts in this thread that seem to be thinking the same thing I do.
I am going to make a commitment, I come on here for information and advise. That is whay I got hooked in here in the first place. My commitment is to contribute to more threads even the ones I have seen quite a bit before. Like someone said the new peole who are just finding this forum and see a way to get ther questions answered or just want other opinions like it here. If I have an opinion on something I will contribute, I may be repeating myself but if that is what will help get more people on here and or interested more in the game, I think we should all do it. JMO

I personally think moving all the exciting action packed threads into the action room hurt the site's entertainment value. Even for the non gamblers it was fun to read those threads.

I have had a successful career in sales and I can clearly see how pool in general and this site have failed to "sell themselves"

Not a chance in the world, BFD. I have made onepocket.org my home page since Artie started posting there. Check his spelling/grammar out and you will see what I mean. People love it because of his and many others knowledge of all games. He and Freddie used to be best buds. Times do change.

Too many sticky's, too many subforums.

When many of the great threads are moved to/started in forums like Straight Pool, World 10-ball, US Open, Derby City Classic, The Action Room etc, the threads that are left in the Main Forum aren't "attractive" enough...

maybe they are spending more time in the pool room.
or more time working at work rather than posting.
or more time lurking than posting at work.

or maybe the content has become too boring to respond

maybe the first thing the economy is affecting is the Computer connection to the internet?

I know I could save quite a bit a month if I was to leave the internet and just go wireless into wifi sites for access. I enjoy a Starbucks and wireless for a couple hours once or twice a week.
