A Lot Of Missing Posters

I think you see many "old time" posters get bored of this place and leave, but there seem to be an abundant number of new posters to take their place and keep it going.
There certainly is no other pool forum that even comes close to this as far as I know for both entertainment and information.

I've been lurking less, and thankfully, for the more knowledgeable members, posting less! Don't think it necessarily has so much to do with the quality of the offerings here.

But on the other hand we do have:

1) A worldwide economic meltdown in progress.
2) A moderately high-stakes presidential election about to go off.
3) And think of all our Icelandic members, raiding the supermarkets and dusting off their bass boats, as their gov't has suggested. Not to laugh, we may be next in the ol' US of A.

If you been around forums long enough, everything goes in cycles and you get tired of the same topics over and over and over, and the personality conflicts, and the cliques. New people come on with legitimate questions that are new to them but worn out and tiresome to you. So you become a lurker waiting for some new topic, or heaven forbid, some information of instructional value. I apologize for being cynical and jaded. That's why I lurk and rarely post. I have nothing but admiration for really long term posters who stick it out in order to help new members.

I agree with you Dave. Things just go in cycles. People drop off new people show up, people get busy or lose interest etc.
Life gets busy and not all of us have the chance to check into AZB at any point during the day. I can't say the economy has anything to do with it but unemployment certainly isn't up here.

Maybe we just need more controversial threads. ;)
AKATrigger you are right and women should not be allowed on a thread about Pool and Billiards in my opinion.
Hows that??? :)

There are dozens of the good posters gone or posting a LOT less in the last few months. I can't see how the economy is to blame unless they use to post from work and have lost their jobs. As far as people being sick of flaming, it has been a lot worse in the past. Can it be that we are out of things to talk about in pool?

Why do you think there are less and less people posting and coming on AZ lately? Johnnyt

there are so many tournaments that there cannot possibly be nothing to talk about - people have busy lives and hangin out on a forum is a luxury to some. with the economy so bad, there could be some that are working more to make ends meet, etc. you get the idea. but given the latest childishness of some members here, i wouldn't blame others for taking a "forum" break.

I personally think moving all the exciting action packed threads into the action room hurt the site's entertainment value. Even for the non gamblers it was fun to read those threads.

i agree, at first i thought it was a good idea-BUTTTTT it dilluted things a bit and there is less to dicuss here and when you have a idea and are in the wrong forum you might forget to make the post when you get to the right forum. If you look at the history od things getting soft here(AND THEY ARE) it was about the time the other forum(s) opened up.

I'm a 11 year member of another board that is about the size of this one and the people there are "family" like here-it was 12-15 dirrerent topic forums like here It is very similar to this one with the cue buiders, room owners, cues, general, NPR etc. The other site is now over 80 different sub-forums- it is moderated about like it is here(not a reason for softness) but mn every time you think of something you have to find where to post it. NONE of the forums there have any conversation its all clinical and stearl. That board is SO similar to AZ and its not near as fun as before-a bit of a mess makes good conversation, who has time to disect 80 sub-forums, there is no spontainous conversation any more, just Q&A's in the right place-the community there is fading-similar to whats happening here, I have seen this first hand there over 11 years, and while it looks like the right plan in the beginning at the end of the day it ruined it, I dont know if its reversible. I hope that dosent happen here.

i'm gonna PM this to Mr.Wilson and Mike H.

Or maybe it was Barbara posting NPR crap in the main pool forum over and over and over and over and over......... ad nauseum........

Milo they cute English accent guys should be able to do whatever they want in here and be exempt and also should have first right of refusal with all female posters :)
Hey how am I doing with the controvesial stuff Melinda?

Mike Janis and Kevin Varney have them all chained up in a think tank somewhere trying to come up with the next big tour idea and line of cues.

Don't get me started. See that sounded like a challenge to me, I can't stop myself from taking up a challenge. However I have to be have and try to be professional as much as possible on here.
I will come up with something as controversal as I can get a waywith and when I get banned I am taking you down with me and using this thread as evidence.

I can remember signs in bars in NY that said, "No women at the bar, tables only". I can remember signs outside pool rooms in NY saying, "NO WOMEN ALLOWED". Now those were the good old days...hows that? Johnnyt

I think the Sticky should be consolidated just like like the raffles were, have a sub forum for the stickys at the top of each forum, get rid of the action room and a few other forums, make a political forum so the NPR is cleaned up from ll the garbage, one thing I hate is debates on religion and politics, there are forums that are dead and need to just be deleted.

I'm Now Watching Court TV All Day For FUN

My take is that there have been a large number of Bannings recently and there seem to be more fingers than ever pushing the 'move this thread' button.

There used used to be threads in the Main Forum (birthday, death of a loved one or pet, marriage, etc., etc.) that while they didn't really belong in the Main Forum, a huge part of the AZB 'family' participated in them. They don't last here anymore and are quickly moved by one of four Moderators or their girlfriends or wives or SOMEBODY.

The Main Forum is now being made strictly pool related, but the 'fun is gone'. It's not as enjoyable for me as it once was. I know, I know, i can go poke around in the NPR forum, but the political and religious threads overwhelm that forum and it is no fun either.

Did I mention that the fun of reading & posting here seems to have diminished ? At least, that's the way that I read it... imo

Doug
(playpool is gone, RSB is gone, ASP is gone and now AZB is becoming mundane) all imo of course....
