A new web series based on pool league - 8 for Vegas

I love it! Hopefully you will have these shows for next year too.

EDIT: Just finished the season, it's awesome. Some constructive criticism (keep in mind this is just an opinion of a pool nut) I think it needs more actual pool shooting on the video. Don't get me wrong, I like the focus on the people and the humor, but if each week was about one or two minutes longer and those minutes were all footage of shooting, that would be sweet. Let us see a few more of the thrills and spills on the felt.

Hi boogie,

First off, thanks for watching, I really appreciate it.

In regards to the pool shooting, a few things. One, a couple of the actors weren't pool players. This happens. It's something we plan to work on for season 2.

Two, there was quite a bit of a learning curve on this project. I have game upon game of b-roll footage and it looks horrible! My second camera guy, and it's not his fault (I gave bad direction) was constantly moving around after every shot, and it was unusable. I shot the footage for the finale games, so there's some continuity there.

We'll be working on that in season 2. We'll see what we can accomplish. Thanks for writing!

Contribution made.

I like what you are doing. It's funny, entertaining and it pertains to pool.

P.s. If this is a scam, I will hunt you down and break your thumbs à la Fast Eddie Felson.

;)

Wow, not sure how I never saw this post a few months back, but I just watched the whole series. Great job on this, plenty of comedy, and definitely entertaining!

In my personal opinion John is not trying to scam anyone here I think 8 for Vegas was a great project and got alot of attention. I enjoyed it anyway. I don't know John very well but well enough to think he is just like alot of us in the pool world who love the game and want to do what we can to help it one way or another. However doing anything that is worth anything costs money and thats something alot of us just don't have alot of. So I say, if you enjoyed the first series donate something if you can afford it. If you can't I am sure that most of us understand. I hope it all works out for you John and you get another season going.

First, thanks for the kind note, I appreciate it.

Second, I think cyco was kidding... as was I. I hope no one takes what was posted seriously ;)

Third, if you cannot donate money (and, believe me, I can understand how tight things are these days), the absolute best thing one can do is share our series with your pool playing friends.

Send them to our site: http://www.8forvegas.com - our facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/8forvegas - for a 'like' - and just spread the word.

We truly appreciate it!

John

Hey, thanks! We had a lot of fun with season 1, and think season 2 will be just as fun! Thanks for watching. Tell your pool playing friends about our series, we'd really appreciate that!

Aloha John, as a contributor do I receive a complimentary postcard from Hawaii? I hope so. (fingers crossed)

Be sure to visit Hawaiian Brian's pool room while you are out there.

Aloha!

Just saw this, watched the first episode and part of the second. The writing is not my cup of tea but production looks great. Good work on putting something out that took some obvious effort to complete.

I think its awesome to see things like this and the Sharks web series being produced. The NYC pool community has a lot of talented people in it.

I like the style of it; it shows the lighter and social aspect of pool which gets missed with the tough guy/break your thumbs vision that's been overdone. Always good for laughs and great production.

Thanks very much, it was a group effort and we had a blast!

Met Jim Murnak for the first time the other night at Amsterdam. It was interesting, swapping production stories and comparing the issues both productions have/had.

Thanks very much! I have had, over the years, so much fun in pool league. Writing comedy is always challenging, but this was pretty painless, since I have so many memories to write about, and people to draw from.

I also can't believe I missed watching these until now!

I just watched the whole series and can't wait to see what season 2 holds. You've really captured something special. I really like how you have and are continuing to develop these very easy to relate to characters that only seem to come together in big cities. The humor is superb and so appropriate for a pool league especially in NYC. The acting feels almost 100% natural in every scene and there appears to be good chemistry in your cast. The video work is also quite good and didn't leave me wanting for better lighting or tighter shots on the table.

I do love watching great pool played at the pro level but unless it's a high stakes money match being broadcast I don't tend to have that live or die feeling with their every shot like I do watching people who are at the amateur level. IMHO at the higher levels of play you sort of expect them to shoot the correct shot and execute it well. They also don't really show excitement or disappointment very well except for a few characters in the pool world at that level and we all here know who those few are. We mostly like to watch them doing whatever they do. To me the excitement comes from the unpredictable shots that pop up in amateur matches that seldom come up in pro matches. There are also way more emotional ups and downs in amateur pool matches due to the imperfect nature of amateur play. Even though I was analyzing their play, thinking follow here, draw there, compensate for the bank angle, watch for the scratch!, I caught myself hoping they'd succeed and riding the emotional wave with them. It made me want to meet up with the characters in your series for a game or two. Actually it made me want to join their team and help them get to Vegas!

Thanks for doing this! I hope this project gets lots of attention and helps give pool the bump up it's been needing for a long time. I'm still figuring out which contribution level I can do but I certainly will contribute.

Thanks again!
Kevin

Wow, thanks so much for the kind words. I passed this along to the cast/crew. They were very appreciative.

The entire production was based around the ups and downs of amateur play, and how invested players get. Competition, at every level, brings a common nervousness, excitement, etc. I'm glad it spoke to you!

And we, of course, would appreciate any donation. People have been very generous, and it means a lot.

All the best - John
