A player named 'country'

Just trying to get some knowledge about this gentleman. I keep

hearing stories (good ones) about he would almost always 'get the cash'.

Just would like to hear some input from the forum family.

He was legendary in New York, all the way back to the 60's. Always was on the right end of things, stayed undercover for the most part (I never really knew how good he was) and never seemed to book a loser. Kind of the New York equivalent of "Pittsburgh" Billy Cardone, except Billy played all the best players. :smile:

His best game was "dirty" eight ball. Seldom played anymore. In this game you could shoot at any ball, even your opponents. You would lose your shot if you shot at your oppo's ball, but no cue ball in hand.

He and I played a partners game at the Rack in Detroit against Freddy Salem for 1k a man. Country and I were partners and Freddy Salem shot between us. Country and I were a perfect match and we won 8 games in a row.

I HEARD he sat in Chicago Billiards in CT for 2 weeks in 90's without hitting a ball and then took the place off for $30k BUT it's hard to swallow as i cant imagine Liscotti not recognizing him.

I've heard of a couple "Country" monikers. There's "Country Calvin" and "Country from New Orleans." If I knew which one you were referring to, I might be able to contribute a little snippet to the thread.

Saw 'Country' Monroe play 1-pocket at the Rack....'bout '78.
He messed up a take-out ...got the double kiss and sold out.
He stood there with both hands on hips and his cue pointing at the floor.

He said "I aint felt so bad since my mule got lame."

'Country' had a presence when he walked into a room.

I spent some time with "Country" in Detroit. He was instrumental in a big score ($17,000) of mine from a pimp.
Grady is 100% correct in saying that "Country" absolutely wouldn't show his speed - UNLESS - it was needed.
I LEARNED A LOT FROM "COUNTRY" IN A VERY SHORT TIME!

As I've said many times - I went to the supermarket and when checking out - I showed them my Trophies. "That's Nice" (they said), Now where's the Ca$h?
