A Plea To Barry Behrman

I'm hopeful you will not go back to the Holiday Inn multi-room venue next year, as you stated. In your letter in this year's program, you asked for feedback. I'm hopeful this thread will evolve and provide you with valuable input as you search for a new venue.

Here's a few of my thoughts:

1) I think a single playing room is better. Watching Alex play Shane, while knowing there was another world class match going on in an adjacent room made me feel like I was really missing out on half my opportunity.

2) How anyone laid out seating that was that tight was a HUGE error. At some points I was crawling under the tables to "escape" or to get a decent seat. The seat shuffling noise was distracting to all.

3) The seating for the players was inadequate as well.

4) If you have to choose another multiple room venue, then maybe you'd consider having a large monitor in each room streaming other key matches.

Regardless, the play was amazing and I had a great time. The Holiday Inn staff was very good, as was the food. And it was convenient to be so close to Q Masters.

I know economics play a big role in your venue selection process and I certainly don't know the marketplace there, but surely we can do better next year? Thanks for putting on a great show; I look forward to many more!

Hey KK9, Main page of this website has a press release saying that they are moving. Just fyi Hope all is well.

Thanks Mark. I still hope our feedback here will be of value to BB and I encourage others to contribute - the good and the bad - constructively.

I am guessing that the input they have already got was overwhelmingly in favor of not going back there based on them Already looking for a new venue? Why don't they go back to the convention Center?

Mark:

The convention center is in Chesapeake. He said in the press release that they needed to stay in Virginia Beach. They have a good working relationship with the local government there. Don't blame him for wanting to be closer to home and the poolroom.

Got ya, I just thought he was talking about the area so people didn't suggest Atlanta or something. You are correct though.

My understanding, without going into details, is there was some problem with the City of Chesapeake itself. They went back on an agreement they had with Barry & I can't say I blame him one bit for pulling out of Chesapeake because the city was making LOTS of money off this event every year. I really did always enjoy it there & hope he can find an adequate 1 room place to have it. It was nice being a bit closer to Q-Masters as well.

Yeah the problem was Barry didn't pay his bill and wore out his welcome.

I was aware of the details & I happen to agree with Barry. The Open brought a lot of money to Chesapeake & they know that so all they're doing is hurting themselves in my opinion. I live here & have been going to the tournament for a long time. I've also know Barry since I was a teenager & have much respect for him. Sure he made some mistakes in the past but who hasn't? He paid the price for what he did & is better than ever now.

I hate you still believe in this loser. He was drunk most of the time at the Open this year while he was screwing everyone over once again. He also had a twenty-something hanging on like a typical loser in his spot. By the way, I've been a TV season ticket buyer for 25 years. It took Barry 25 years to make this event a world class event and about 10 to junk it out. Way too much drugs, drinking, gambling and prostitution will do that.

I was there every night & have been going for the past 16 years. It's still a world class event or the players wouldn't be there, the problems with payment between Barry & the players is just that.....between Barry & the players. If you want to believe he's a loser than that's your right just like if I believe he's not a loser that's my right; everyone's entitled to their opinion about him. What he did in the past is in the past. If he drinks during the Open how is that anyone's business but his? You also have no idea who that woman was with him, all you're doing is speculating.

I have been reading the threads on all of this and hearing people who do know what they are talking about telling how things have been. Here is the word that is going around. RobertaAngor please step in here as you seem to be in the know and correct what parts are untrue.
1) They left Chesapeak because Barry owed the convention center money.
2) Now he owes the new venue money and has to move to another location.
3) He stiffed the contractors that built the bleachers or stands.
4) He was supposed to add $60k to the prize fund and at best he is short $64k Thats just the players prize fund that we know about.
5) If he owes the players $64k and contractors $$$ where did all the money go?

As I said this is all that is going around and if you are in the know as you say you are please straighten these points out for the Pool world and maybe help Barry get his reputation back a little at least.

Never said I was in the know about all of it, the only thing I've heard about so far is about him leaving Chesapeake. I was under the impression that he got the Chesapeake Convention Center rent free because of all the revenue the Open brought into the city. Not sure why he got the $25,000 bill from them if this was true. I don't know anything about the other questions you're asking. I don't know if he owes the new venue money or not but the reason he said he's looking for a new venue is because everyone wants it back in 1 room instead of spread out like it was this year. He publicly stated he owes the top 6 finishers their money & that they will be getting it in full. I don't know anything about him owing money to the bleacher contractors.

This thing is on one hell of a condition. I heard fro a pretty reliable source this morning that he does owe the convention Center and they turned it''s back on him.
What he owes the ;layers adn so forth will come to light so, I'm sure.
Let's face it, he is just taking one air barrel after another. This event is eventually doomed!
I'm just happy Mark owns the name!
