As others have said to me, pool will always have people like JAM, thankfully almost NOBODY within the industry feels like her.

I'll probably be a monkey for saying it but hey I'm in good company since about half the members of AZ seem to be monkeys nowadays!

Jay aside of your personal knowledge of Don Mackey. and Im sure its deeper than mine, He is the only head of a pro organization that has returned my (a fan) call to his office. I wanted to complain about ESPN's choice of commentators at the time of the tour. Tom ( idont remember his last name name) had no idea of what the game was about and just kept coming up with the silliest of jokes while sure hands like Varner or Sigel were trying to explain the game at hand. Don took my call seriously and I appreciated him for that. Besides some of the best tournaments we had in the late 20th century that he commandeered. ESPN at that time was doing the stupid Celebrity/Pro tournaments at that time and their races to 7 is about the stupidest idea of all. Think of the PGA relegated to 9 holes for a major tournament.

I don't have a lot of patience with dishonest people, no matter what kind of "front" they put up. There will be a chapter in my book that goes into a little more detail on the "Mackey" era.

Well that is really bad if he ran off with cash. But wait a minute Jay you are a decent guy. Think of it this way as far as dishonesty goes. Im sure Phil Spector would like his $25K back when two celebrated cueists put the "dump" on him for it. And its been many times when I've seen a top one pocket hall of famer in on a dump on his backers. yet he is only thought of his contribution to the game. Thats "dishonesty" as well. And I'm sure you, like me, have been stiffed by many guys you played and suffered from loans from pool players that have never been paid back when I needed it most. I see these guys every day and they continue to gamble in front of me without one word. Dishonesty is all around not just with one person.

I'm 57 and I don't ever recall pool being in any type of "Golden Era". Was it ever better than it is today? Sure it was but it wasn't what I'd call "Golden"!

Seems to me that what is needed is for someone to come along that has integrity, a love for the game and the wherewithall to pull the players together and get a professional tour organized. If this person has the goods stated above, maybe some sponsors would entertain the notion to back a tour. Without someone pulling it all together, I seriously doubt any sponsor would be willing to jump on the bandwagon. You can't put sponsors ahead of having a legitimate and reliable tour. And, I don't think a small committee of people in the industry would be able to make it work either. It requires a single entity that rules with impunity to make this happen. JMHO.
