While watching the streaming of DCC Riche Richeson was playing 1-hole Vs. I believe Cliff J. Cliff or whoever was giving him 9-7 and 8-7 I believe it was. I asked in the chat if anyone wanted to bet against Riche? I said Riche was a very good 1-hole player and was world class. Two people jumped in and said Riche wasn't close to world class, that he was a shortstop. I've seen him take down Buddy Hall in 1-hole. I'll admit I don't play it so I really can't tell by watching him play it. Where do you guys rank him? Thanks. Johnnyt

In the second tier, below Owen, Daulton etc.

I play with Richie on a weekly basis. He's awesome, and also a stand up guy.

He beat Cliff both matchups. Shannon was commentating on the match and said "there aren't 10 players in the world who can give RR weight in 1-hole".

Well, I have never played Richie any one pocket, but watched him play a few times. Have played 9-ball with him a few times. He's a very talented player. Under-rated by a lot of people. I'd give him a world class rating. He definitely ain't no shortstop.

Right on Sir!

Richie Richeson is no shortstop, and is a world class player. I have had the privelege of watching a few accustats tapes of him, one beating champion Steve Cook 4-0, one beating Grady, I forget the score, another playing Efren, which he happened to lose, but still won a game or two. With his style of aggressive play, he left Efren too many tester shots, which he shot and got out like he does to almost every top player. When I was living in Tucson years ago, he came through town and beat every one, and was giving the local shortstops big weight. He was a joy to watch. His wife Jennifer doesnt play bad either. In addition to being a world class one pocket player, he is also a great three cushion player, as he beat the state champ, Henry two sets in a row on an unfamiliar table. He also happens to be a dear friends cousin. The propool video nineball match against Luis wasnt a good showing, but dont let that fool you, or better yet, let it fool you and play him some, I bet you wont like it.

Fragged has been on a roll lately and once again correctly clocked another very good player.
RR is for sure top shelf. He's not a threat to win a World One Pocket Championship, but he would place I'de say top 50 USA easy. Accu-Stats has him playing one pocket. Very impressive.

I saw him play Varner last year in his home court room and not sure if there was a spot, but Nicky won and he had to come with the goods to do so.

I've been watching Richie play for the last 20 years, and World Class is a little too strong - Fragged's clocking is correct - Top shortstop speed or bottom-pro level you could call it, a similar speed to guys like: Gerald Slivka, Sylver Ochoa, Tony Mougey, Ike, Mark Haddad, Dee Adkins, etc.....And yes, Richie or any of the aforementioned guys can beat a Gabe Owen or a Larry Nevel in a short race - but they are the underdog against those guys......Speed labels can be subjective, so just watch how he matches up - he's been getting 9-7 (with slight fluctuations at times) from Cliff for the last 15 years or so....and last year, in the action room, Richie tried to play Marco Marquez a session of even one pocket, and lost.

Shannon said he wouldn't give Richie 10-7 and he didn't think Cliff could beat Richie at 10-7. But someone said when you see a certain "bounce" in Richie, he's playing world class.

Thank you all for the info. I did win my bets on the streaming vs Cliff. Like I said above I've only played Riche 9-ball and only saw him play 1-hole once live. Not being a 1-hole player I really didn't know what I was watching.

PS. to Doug at Planet 9-ball. In the tournament that you made me as the TD an "B" player in a race to 5,6,or,7(I forget now) that I had Riche stuck hill to nothing. Then I missed the 7-ball and he ran the set out. Hadn't I already won the match when I only needed one game? Boy I just thought of that. Me dumb. Johnnyt

Ah, that was me. I watched Richie regularly here in Florida for years and when he's 'bouncing' around the table, he's hitting them great. When the bouncing diminishes and he's beginning to walk 'normally', the tide is usually changing.... imo

HUH ?
Well, as a B player, you would have been getting the 8 ball from Richie (I didn't spot games on the wire), SO, if you were on the hill and missed the 7 (you'd have won if you'd made the 8 or 9) and Richie ran the set out, then you would have lost.

I hated running those weekly 'handicapped' tournaments (due to the the complainers), but I did it for 7 years and it ran very smoothly with players that couldn't run ONE ball (sometimes with b.i.h) and players such as you, Richie Rich, Short Bus Russ, Tony Crosby, Richard Broumpton, Benny Conway, etc. and any Pro passing through town.

Doug
( nobody won more weekly tournaments than local player Ed Porter, but he got married and quit pool and took up online poker )

THIS is a really accurate assessment and about as good as can be done. Very fair and I especially like the noteworthy part about "speed labels can be subjective......fluctuations." I agree 100% with the group you have him compared to as well.
Nice realistic post and shows you know your players.
