About time

Thanks for everything you've done for us. I'm glad to hear that you will still be doing some commentating, you're one of the best at it.
Maybe now you will have some time for our friendly one pocket match for dinner that we've talked about. Good luck in whatever you decide to do in your retirement. I'm proud to call you my friend.

You *should* be out there enjoying the autumn of your life. It sounds as if -- and I may be wrong -- running tournaments is not enjoyable for you anymore.

It's good to be a commentator because your knowledge of the game and players personally will complement the video as a whole. Plus, you like doing that. It's a win-win for all.

I'm not far behind you in age, and I, too, am rethinking my lifestyle. I would like to retire and move somewhere else.

You shouldn't be doing anything that you really don't want to, so good for you to make that decision. :)

Me Too

Hi Jay:

I too want to join those thanking you for your many contributions to pool.
I am in the same boat with all you retired geriatrics and also like the idea of kicking back and enjoying my golden years. I never get tired of reading and re-reading your fine accounts of your pool histories. Thanks again!

For me to quit directing tournaments. I spoke with Pat Fleming sometime ago and will not be going back to the U.S. Open, unless there is an emergency of some kind. I also do not plan to go to DCC and direct the Bigfoot event again. I just don't want to work the long days anymore and feel it's time for a younger generation to take over for guys like me and Kenny Shuman and Bill Stock. We are all around 70 years old. I have been running events for well over thirty years and that's enough for me. Kenny will only be working the TV table at the Open this year.

I do plan to continue doing commentary when asked and write the occasional piece for Billiards Digest and will also endeavor to give back to the game that has been so good to me. Things like the Robles Sportsmanship Award and the BEF Foundation are high on my list, as well as up and coming young players who may need help from time to time. I want to enjoy whatever time I have left.

I love meeting fellow AZers when we cross paths and still want to make that one last road trip some day. Don't worry, you can't keep me off of AZ Billiards!
You're the best, Jay! Working with you is one the highlights of my pool life!

It's sad to me to hear that you"re retiring, you make me feel old and that doesn't feel too good. We have been very friendly throughout the 50 years we have known one another and I always have felt comfortable when around you, maybe it had something to do with our ability to hang on for so many years and also the genuine concern we have for one another, you have always been a class act in every thing you have done. Enjoy the time you have left, and I lasted longer than you, i'm still not retiring, not juzt yet.

Your friend always,
Bill Incardona

As everyone has said, you've been one of the great voices and brains behind our sport, Jay. You deserve to do as you want and enjoy it!

Thanks for all you've done! I've always enjoyed your work behind the mic and when I've seen you at tournaments, I always know things are being run the right way.

Best wishes!

Brian in VA

Jay,

Will you be playing in more events now that you won't be directing tournaments? If so, which ones do you expect to play in.

Do you have any thoughts or suggestions as to who will step up to the plate to fill your shoes and those of Kenny and Bill?

Wishing you all the best!
