ABR 2Nite: Peeling The Onion and Wagging the Dog

Is this what is needed for this format?

Rule: Flight winners will automatically earn 5/8 payouts. If for any reason a flight winner is unable to play in their next semi-final match the next highest finishing alternate available will advance instead. If a flight winner or alternate fails to show or compete in a semi or finals match a forfeit will occur, the opponent will be given a win, and the forfeiting player will not receive the loser's payout for the forfeited match. In all cases players will only be paid for completed matches.

Good post jsp. But although Ralph getting paid 3rd may have been a factor in your own intelligent analysis of the situation, it really wasn't a big issue in the vast majority of anti-CSI posts. Most were simply forfeit = bye, period, and didn't get into the finer points.

I have been thinking about trying to get Ralph for an interview to give his side of what happened but I think even if he agreed to be interviewed it would be a very short interview.

Something like, "So Ralph what happened?"

Ralph: I booked my flight wrong and I could not change it.

End of interview.

Oh I don't know about that. Follow it up with "Now CSI would like $1000 back from you as your leaving the event resulted in you getting 5/8 in the event instead of 3/4 as you were paid for, thoughts on that?"

Ozzy

Time 38 minutes to 41 Ozzy says

"no, he has not heard that they were upset or anything of that nature!"

I found where it was asked and answered but listen for yourself 39 minute mark on the podcast.

KD

i missed that last night. (or i don't remember it) ;)
apparently Ozzy doesn't read AZB. but Mark does.

i'm hoping that after the Ko's got home, things made more sense to them. i think that most of the problem was a language barrier, and then add the stress of 20min notice after assuming he'd won a BYE. now that the situation's reasoning has been explained, there are many who can translate & get this info to them (EX: NiceGuy).

did you catch what Mark said about Ozzy? listen real hard, cause it's slight & fast:

"the rudder's changing"

start @ 46 mins

I got mentioned and wanted to explain why I mentioned his health. It was relevant to understanding the decision and logic behind his decision making.

It was not done out of malice! I like the vast majority of his decisions.

All in all I think it was informative interview this week,

I am sure Ralf (the way his name is actually spelled) is aware of the issues and surely will take of it.

Ralf will probably be unhappy with the outcome all the way around and be willing to pay the difference back. I am sure he would like to address it to his fans around the world.

I personally am keenly aware of the costs of changing flights as I have spent more than $2000 doing it these past several months. Sometimes the hassle is beyond ridiculous.

Are you sure he is willing to pay back the $1000 when he thought he was guaranteed the 3rd/4th place money when he forfeited/withdrew, seeing as he wasn't told any different.

i remember that post. i took it as concern for Mark, and a reminder to all, that he hasn't been well & might be exhausted.

when i talked to him the other night, he sounded the best i've heard in 10 months. and considering he's probably run on 5 hrs sleep/night for a few weeks, that's saying a lot. being pissed off & adrenaline kicked in helps too....

knowing Ralf, he'll pay it back. he won't like it, but it would be prudent. and it'd be a lot cheaper than having to refund the entire $2750 & dealing with Barry Hearn.

Did you have electrodes into his brain? He could have been thinking "OH man, I'm screwing the pooch here, I hope I don't get nothing".

I can just about bet the $1000 that Ralf will take the professional approach and pay the grand back. I am positive he will understand the situation and seek to preserve the good relationship he has meticulously built with everyone in the industry.

I have never known Ralf to be anything less than scrupulously honest and very professional in his business dealings.

I am equally sure he will apologize again for the scheduling mistake.

It is a damn shame that professionals who travel as much as Ralf does doesn't have a pretty much free pass to change flights at will. The airlines are incredibly brutal sometimes.

Why there isn't the "wag the dog" phrase in the episode title on the ABR website? Was it removed?

No, not removed. Sometimes we get a little more 'creative' with the title on Az than on the website. Nothing to write home about.

Thanks for listening.:)
