I see quite a few threads here about many of the top finishers at Derby City and barely a mention of Warren Kiamco. He just overcame a huge and deep field of 9-Ball players to win his first ever Derby City title at age 46! All the credit in the world to a man who never gave up, and kept on grinding out a living at this very tough game.

Warren remains the same soft spoken man I met two decades ago, gracious and humble, always respectful of his opponents and the fans. Warren has long been one of the top Filipino players, usually rated a notch under the top guns like Dennis, Alex, Lee Vann, Efren and Francisco. Of course being second tier in the Philippines makes you first tier anywhere else in the world.

Warren is a good family man with a wife and three lovely daughters. He takes care of them no matter what sacrifices he has to make. I've been fortunate to visit his lovely but modest home in Quezon City. He has made a good life for himself and his family despite the odds being stacked against him. He will travel all around the Philippines playing small money games just to make ends meet if need be.

I'm very proud of Warren for what he just accomplished. No easy task to take down the best player all week (Alex) to win the 2015 DCC 9-Ball crown. Way to go my friend!

Nice post, jay.

I agree that warren is a fine man, in addition to an obviously excellent pool player.

Kiamco

Great post Jay! Yes Warren does deserve huge respect for grinding through that field of talent to win.
Congrats

Amen...nice post Jay.

Loved the crawl up on to the table after the win. That wasn't easy either.

Fitting that Alex provided comic relief by rubbing Warren's head, as if to say...'we understand...now get off the table...you just won.'

Congratulations.

...also pretty sure I heard, 'Warren won..he's buying tonight';) from Alex.

I agree. Warren was a pleasure to watch all week and played beautifully. The room was definitely pulling for Alex, but I didn't hear anyone rooting against him. Glad he won his first DCC crown (if Alex had to lose).

I was pulling for Alex (because Canadian Passport trumps good guy) but you can just tell that Warren is a decent dude. Well done Warren.

What's next? US Open at 50?

Nick

I've never seen Kiamco smile like that! Heck, I can't remember ever seeing him smile. LOL

Congrats on a huge win, Warren. Alex seemed unstoppable until you put the brakes on him. Great play!

Your right Jay. He does deserve congrats for a great run and 9 ball win at the DCC. We all bad. Johnnyt

Great post Jay, I too am glad to see Warren beat the odds at the Derby.
Congratulations to Warren........ Well played

You are a good man Jay for putting the spotlight onto Warren for his achievement and his humble way of being. Big congrats to Warren. I always did like his consistent steady play and his quiet personality at the table.

Congratulations to Warren!! This has been a long time coming to my good old friend Warren. Well deserved victory after a long time and what a victory it is, beating Alex who looked unstoppable.

I and the rest of our friends are really proud of you!!

nice

Nice of Jay to call attention to Warren Kiamco, who has been on the pro pool scene for a long time, always low-key, and winning his first DCC title, besting one of the world's best.......Congratulations to Warren!

Great tourny. I think he is finally coming into his own. Also i like that he will fly over here at the drop of a hat and makes friends all over.

I like to call Warren Kiamco, "my friend", except for when he cooks fish at midnight and wakes me up. :D

Warren's amicable and generous spirit wins friends for him wherever he goes.

CHAMPION!

JoeyA

P.S. And I must also add that he shows class and professionalism regardless of winning or losing!
