After Scaramouche posted the link to the Reyes interview on YouTube, I decided I wanted to buy that match (see Russ, it does work! ;)). On their website, I noticed that the day I was waiting for has finally arrived. They have begun the massive undertaking of converting the "Classic" matches to DVD!

The monster task of VHS to DVD conversion has begun!
New additions are being added almost daily.
You can find them in the DVD Center in
"The Classics".

This is great, because there was a thread once where people recommended their favorite Accu-Stats matches, but I didn't buy any of them because I didn't want any more tapes. Now I'm going to have to dig up that thread and keep my eye on the Accu-Stats website. :D

Hey, if anyone has seen any of the matches that are listed on there so far, feel free to comment on them here. I noticed that they've got the Efren/Earl match from the Sands, where Efren makes "the shot". :D

Buy it. That match is the nuts. I have had the tape forever, Never gets old.

Well if they are still offering the 9 ball match between Rempe and Archer, GET IT! Its the best 9 ball match you will ever see. Its a long race and they both keep putting 4s and 5s on each other. Very strong play.

I'll keep my eye out for it, but can you give us some information to go to locate what match you are talking about. If they were stringing 4 & 5 at a time it must be a race to 13 (at least) so maybe a Sands event?

I'v tried to search their site for matches between Rempe and Archer and their search doesn't handle that operation well.

This is good news for everyone. Pat just opened up a whole new market for himself, and younger people get access to more good matches.

I'm not sure if 26.00 for an upconverted DVD is quite fair, though.. Anyone know if the video quality is any better than the VHS copies? I hope so, because paying 26.00 for an upconverted VHS-DVD copy and not being able to tell the difference between the 4,6,7, and 8 would definitely be a little frustrating.

I recommened to Pat to just rip copies directly to DVD through a VHS to DVD recorder one can get at Best Buy, and charge a lesser price to compensate for lack of quality and he can use a DVD/CD stamper to cheaply stamp the titles on the DVD, or use a Lightscribe DVD burner to put on labels.

Hey, but then again, I am just happy that he is putting out the older product again.

One match I did not see on there that I highly recommend if Pat will offer it is the Sands Regency match where Johnny Archer and Rafael Martinez play in the finals. Rafael puts so much heat on Johnny it's nuts, but Johnny still pulls it out. It was Johnny at his best, when he never looked like he was scared of jawing a ball on tough shots.

Also, there is a match out there where Billy Incardona absolutely destroys Kim Davenport. Pat definitely needs to offer that one. It shows just how monstrously strong a 9 ball player Billy used to be. Billy had a flashback (If you can call it that. His hair was still all black) and Kim was lucky to see more than a ball or two the entire match.

Personally, I started scouring Ebay and picked up a bunch of tapes and dubbed them to DVD myself. Perhaps for those wanting to pay a more reasonable price for a large amount of older matches, one can pick upa bunch of matches for half price on VHS on from Accu-Stats, and dub them yourself.

Trust me, I have a lot of matches done like this, and the quality is pretty good. Since I bought used tapes, I actually have a small bit of static in my DVDs, but by buying new VHS from the store and dubbing them while new, you all wouldn't have that problem.

Again, it's great to see Pat offering the older matches again.

Ask him for Archer-Martinez and Incardona-Davenport! They are two of the best matches I've seen. Oh yeah.. and there is a "cursing match" out there, that if you could pick it up cheap, would be worth it just to hear hear Grady's (along with a LOT of other pros, male and female) potty mouth(s). :D Ask Pat. He'll know exactly what you're talking about.

mosconiac,

Just ask Pat directly. You can get a lot of matches that are not in the catalog that way.

Russ

LOL, thanks Russ. I've got to check out the cursing match.

I haven't bought the technology to do the VHS/DVD conversions, but I've been hoping to take on that project eventually. Then I can finally throw out all of my clunky tapes that I couldn't let go of yet. Maybe now is the time to finally get around to that. I agree, this is fantastic news!

Thanks, folks, for the recommendations so far. It's probably worth buying any of those 20 or so matches that they've converted so far, since I'd assume those are basically "Pat's Picks".

> The match Russ refers to is a double-match tape, with Incardona defeating Davenport like 11-5 and Sal Butera 11-8 or something, but he catches a gear in both matches. It was from the 1990 U.S. Open I think. Great match. Tommy D.

Mizerak vs. Strickland from the 1994 U.S. Open is a good match. It is a player review match with the Miz and Billy in the booth. It's funny 'cause Billy starts to criticize some of Steve's shot selections and it doesn't mix well with Steve's ego. There are some uncomfortable moments of silence in that tape that are worth the price, not to mention excellent play by the Miz and his reasoning behind certain shots.

Somewhere in that review Billy says something to Steve like, "Well, you have to remind yourself that you're playing Earl Strickland."

And Steve comes back with, "Yes, but he is also playing ME."

Classic.

"well as ugly as keith is he can't score out here on the road and since I've taken him in to watch him in this tournament he's broke me in vaseline."

from Grady: "well, you joke about him not getting any, but kieth usually has a young lady in tow... and if he doesn't, when he's driving down the road he just throws a towel over himself and lopes his mule and dedicates it to me."

HAHAHHAAHHAhshahAHahdsisdfjkllasgsag that video is solid gold.

Anyone ever try the pay-per-view online? They have a sample commercial that shows up in a small window. I'm on a Mac, so I don't know if that makes a difference. Too bad they don't sell downloadable videos for cheaper, it probably wouldn't be much more of a piracy threat than DVDs, would it?

The pay-per-views are pretty cheap at 9 bucks, and it's possible (tho tedious in some cases) to capture them and keep them forever. I'm glad he's trying it. DVDs are definitely more pirate-able because they take less effort to rip and are more in demand cuz of the nicer quality.

I think a lower quality permanent download for about half the price of the DVD would be a nice thing for pat to do, especially since you can stream it and basically watch it right away. I'd go for that.
