I'm not sure why, but Dragon and CW decided to go with J.R. Calvert of InsidePOOL to do the live streaming.
Pat Fleming and Accu-Stats is located in New Jersey, so it would seem prudent that they would be the logical choice. That said, to produce the high quality of Accu-Stats recordings is expensive, and for Pat to set up all his equipment, pay his people, and produce these DVDs, well, it's not cheap. Of course, as we all know, you get what you pay for. Those Accu-Stats DVDs will be missed, but I can't discount J.R. Calvert and his live streaming.
What has been written as assumptions on this forum is that J.R. Calvert of InsidePOOL's live streaming cost was less than Accu-Stats. Sometimes economics will dictate how an event unfolds.
When I'm on the shortskies, I buy Scotts toilet paper instead of Charmin, to save money. They both still get the job done, I guess!
I, too heard it was a money thing and that Accu-Stats needed a certain amount of money in order to set up at the World's and that Inside Pool did not cost as much. The past two years, the tournament was at Pool Halls where Pat was already set up. The last time it was in a hotel, Accu-stats was not there either. I do not know how the economics of who pays who and who gets the money for the dvds works.
Anyway, we, of course missed Pat and the stellar commentary of Danny Diliberto. I do not know if dvds are going to be available. We have been asking J.R. Calvert and it might depend upon demand. In the meantime, the videos are available for rental at youtube.

IMO CW made a mistake in not using the best, Accu-Stats, to stream and make DVDs of his 14.1 "World Championship".

I know they would have been great, just like everything they do.
But does anyone know how the money deal works? I heard that Charlie was supposed to come up with 25K for Pat to set up. I do not know if this is true or not, but sounds like a lot of cheese to me.
I will not comment on why Accuo-Stats was not there to stream and record.
IMHO there is a bigger down side and that is now there is no chance those 14.1 matches will be shown on TV.

My understanding is the Asians are not fans of 14.1 and it is uncertain if the 14.1 would have been shown on ESPN Asia. But now, that Accu_Stats did not do the recordings we know that it will never be seen.

The "stream" table matches are uploaded to youtube (inside pool's channel) so you can download them (sometimes for free, sometimes $0.99) & brun them to DVD if you wish. I buy DVDs for about $0.15 each, so that's a pretty cheap DVD even when paying the $0.99.
Have you tried this? I rented one but was unable to download it using my usual software. I am not sure they are downloadable. If you were successful, what program did you use?
I'd like to know the answer to that to, with detailed instruction about how to do it.
Guys let me just say I have tried now twice to get Accu Stats to come out and cover my event at Valley Forge and both times I was met with numbers to the tune of 12 and 15 thousand respectively and now that Accu Stats has seemingly caught up with the rest of the streaming world and gone HD with Tricaster etc Pat has upped his cost. As a business person he is well within his rights to do so but we as event directors promoters etc also have the right to decline those services and look for a suitable alternative.
JR and Alvin did a fantastic fantastic job with the streaming. The matches will be on DVD in time if there is enough outcry for them which there definitely seems to be.
Charlie made the right choice here by keeping money in the tournament and not shelling out the cost to Accu Stats and used another company that did a stellar job.

So what you are saying is have them take time and money to create a product that may or may not sell. Lets take a minute to actually think about how many dvd's from this event sell every year. How many full sets do you think Pat actually sells from this event. 40? 50? 60? Why not create a list of people that want them and then sell so you know where your market share is rather than just blanket selling which has seemed to work out oh so well so far.
And there are a lot of companies out there just as good if not better. I understand if you are a fan and thats cool man but to base your argument which you obviously are on dvd production than best of luck to you. lol
You do realize even when the great Accu-Stats films an event it can be a couple of months before the DVDs are out?! This tournament was just a week ago for christ sake. The Inside Pool stream was excellent (at least the last three days I had it) and the commentators were mostly very good.
In all honesty after the quality of the 2009 US Open set with all the skipping and jumping etc in terms of the dvds I wouldn't want the dvd's that way in all honesty let them take their time and produce a great product as they did with the stream.
Just to be clear these companies are in business to make money and in all honesty if they feel that going to production (time costs supply shipping etc) isnt going to make them a profit then they won't do it and shouldn't do it. It sucks yes but as a player in the event itself and as an event promoter and director myself as I said I would rather keep the money in the event as Charlie did as opposed to paying the cost for Accu Stats and if we run the risk of no dvd's than so be it.
Since you seem to be in the mood to discuss numbers how much was your cost for Valley Forge for Inside pool? Were there paid professional commentators or was it Alvin and JR plus whatever pro they could talk into getting into the booth? How many cameras? How many members of the crew? How much was the charge for the PPV?
I ask these things because there are always ways to cut costs but most of them will cut quality.... Paid commentators can be eliminated by doing it yourself.... You can run the cameras yourself while commentating.... I am not sure what the quality will be compared to accustats where they do not do these things to cut costs...
Maybe lower quality low cost streams is what we need to get used to... If that is the case we should expect much lower PPV prices anytime a cut rate streamer is used......
Yes I would love to discuss numbers our cost was nothing with Alvin and JR as they generously donated their time and equipment to us. Instead of packing up shop and heading home like the rest of the world at that event at that time (vendors breaking down booths etc) they stayed for no money and put the stream on for us for the finals of our event.
Our commentary was done by us the people who ran the event because as I said everyone else at that point was gone.
As for them being a cut rate streamer I think thats a little insulting don't you?
cut rate, meaning they charge less, seems accurate.... Since you are telling us that they ate the costs and donated their time and equipment I will stand behind it.. It is apparently a different revenue model founded on the fact that something is better than nothing and we will pay full price for PPV and youtube rentals even if it is not the best quality because that is all there will be....

I'm about to download the PPV Hohmann/Alex match right now. I'll report back as soon as I'm done.
EDIT: Well, although I was able to save several matches earlier, there is no way I know of to capture them now. I tried every trick I know & all failed. Sorry for misleading everyone. A security setting must have changed somewhere along the line.
