Has anybody ever heard of Ace Custom cues?

we just got a new person on our tuesday pool leage apa team and he was telling me about he has a custom cue but didnt have it with him..

he proceeded to tell me it was made by a california cuemaker named John Ace that makes cues in california.. i think he said the town was Apple(something)

i searched the forum and google and the internet and i could not find one thing about this Ace cues person.. i had and owned and sold alot of different custom cues but never heard of this guy..

he also showed me pictures of the cue on his phone and said it was made entirely out of cocobolo but the cue in the pictures was green.. i showed him my cue and many others that were cocobolo but red in color and he said he never heard of any cue with cocobolo being any other color then green.. and i thought that was funny because i never heard of green cocobolo..

anyways.. if anybody has any info on this john ace custom cues.. please post it.. and if anybody has a cue or seen a cue made by this person.. please post the pics.. as i would love to see and hear all about it..

thanks..chris

This won't add anything to your post, but with a couple of crown royals in me green cocobolo just made me laugh because i havent seen any either. :killingme:

+1, I can't speak for much other than having never seen cocobolo in anything like green. Best of luck with your query!

Green cocobolo was imported to California this year from the cocobolo forests of Fukushima, Japan. One of the really cool advantages of these pool cues is you can throw your cell phone into your cue case and it'll be fully charged by the time you get to the billiard parlor.

i was reading that online.. he showed me cell phone pics of the cue and it was plane as day green.. completly green not just streaks...

he said when the cuemaker made it, they picked out a great piece that didnt have no white streaks in it.. i just never heard of this...

i cant believe nobody knows of this cuemaker in california.. ?

I don't know about the wood, but could "Ace Custom Cues" be "AC Custom Cues" as in Ariel Carmeli?

You can kind of see the green streaking in those

.

no.. he said it was Johnny Ace was the guys name.. deffinatly not Ariel Carmeli... this guy is supposed to be a lower end cue maker/repair man.. not the high quality cue maker Ariel is..

and like i said.. if it was brown with streaks in it.. i would said it was brown.. but this was completely green.. the shaft was also made out of the same wood.. so the butt and the shaft was solid green...

kinda like this..
no imagine this frog jump cue was a wrapless cue... and you could see the would grain in the green wood...

frog1.jpg

thats basically what the picture looked like.. it wasnt a brown cocobolo cue with green streaks.. is was more or less a solid green cue..

next week.. hopefully at leagues he will have it in person and i can see it with my own eyes and take a picture...

If it was really that green I am thinking it was stained wood.

I have no idea who that maker is.

yeah i dont know if it was stained or not untill i am able to see it in person.. the owner insisted when the cue was made, it was a green square board...

Cocobolo is a tropical hardwood of the tree Dalbergia retusa from Central America. Only the heartwood is used: this is typically orange or reddish-brown in color, often with a figuring of darker irregular traces weaving through the wood. The sapwood (not often used) is a creamy yellow, with a sharp boundary with the heartwood. The heartwood is known to change color after being cut, lending to its appeal.

Cocobolo is oily in look and feel. This oil lends a strong, unmistakable floral odor even to well seasoned wood and occasionally stains the hands with prolonged exposure. Standing up well to repeated handling and exposure to water, a common use is in gun grips and knife handles. It is very hard, fine textured and dense, but is easily machined, although due to the abundance of natural oils, the wood tends to clog abrasives and fine-toothed saw blades, like other very hard, very dense tropical woods. Due to its density and hardness, even a large block of the cut wood will produce a clear musical tone if struck. Cocobolo can be polished to a lustrous, glassy finish. The high natural oil content of the wood makes it difficult to achieve a strong glue joint, and can inhibit the curing of some varnishes, particularly oil based finishes.

There is no green Cocobolo wood, Diamond has built Cocobolo wood finished pool tables, and...there is no GREEN Cocobolo wood.

i whole heartily agree with you.. but this kid was positive it was cocobolo...

and since he did not have the cue and just a bad cell phone photo, i cant tell for sure what kind of wood it was..

i wish somebody had some info on this cuemaker.. i would call him and get the story right from the horses mouth...

Just because he's positive it's cocobolo, doesn't mean he's right...lots of young guys are positive about stuff they know absolutely nothing about! There's a good chance he misunderstood the cue maker and is going around spouting off what he thinks he knows about the cue; but will likely be just as happy/proud with what he ends up with.

thats exactly what i am thinking happened... but nobody has yet to show any posts with any type of wood that it could be either,,,,
