Action one pocket match controversary

Be nice if everyone played by or with the same good rules...just might get rid of some of them ol "grey areas". Them ol grey areas just screw the game of pool up more than it already is.jmho of course:D. John B.

You have to call it frozen on every shot and I have seen a player look at a ball and agree it's frozen and then re-look at it again when it's his shot only to determine it's not frozen. It's like the two foul rule, you have to let your opponent know when he's on two fouls.

thanks for all the posts

seems like the guy I play took advantage of a rule that is in effect by the letter but is a dick move
that's how I seen it, it makes sense that to "protect" yourself you have to declare froze every single time but I think its BS , if I am playing a decent lad I would think be would not have to do this until perhaps a new inning, it wont happen again that's for sure ill be clarifying before we start

just glad I came out on top , after that I had a little fire lit under me and I won :)

This is why I play pool with John Henderson, we actually were playing a set last week and we were betting pretty good and I had a coin on the rail and a ball in my pocket and I asked John if I owed one because I thought I had spotted it but wasn't sure and John said I had spotted it. The guy in the post would never have done that. Unless of of course he just did it because he had the nuts.

John Henderson is a good man in a bad world.

I hadn't noticed that detail. I think most people and even one pocket players would agree that you don't have to call a ball frozen multiple times per inning. Imagine a player running six balls when the 10 is frozen down on the head rail. "10's froze" plunk "10's froze" plunk "10's still froze" plunk "10's froze" whack "10's froze" dribble "10's froze" plunk. That would be stupid.

^^^ This. Although having to require a ball being agreed to be frozen ahead of the shot [at it] is one thing; it's a ridiculous pedantic thing to have to agree on it "still being frozen" on each and every shot within the same inning. I know if I realized I were playing someone that required this, I'd get out of the game and not play that person again.

I don't think anyone meant that, just if a ball is called froze and four innings later the guy lays on the ball without being warned again he has not fouled.
How long is he supposed to have to remember this?

Four innings in a one pocket game could take 15 minutes. Half the time the players can't remember who broke last much every detail of the game they are playing. How many times do they have to check the score or ask how many they need?

It is unreasonable to put that burden on the shooter and equally unfair to have a guy jump up four innings later and yell foul due to a frozen ball called 15 minutes ago that may not even be frozen anymore if checked.

The OP meant exactly that.

totally agree with this if it was 4 inning slater however in the OT I satated the situation was I called the ball froze he agreed shot a different ball made it then the shot direcrtly after that he rolled up to the ball that was froze I call foul he says no you have to call it froze at every shot

You and me both Sean. In fact if I have a problem like this with a guy during the course of a game, I will let him know this is my last game, WIN OR LOSE!

I would call it frozen after every shot, to avoid a problem like this!

I agree with Sean n Jay, you should not have to call it before every shot if nothing came close to hitting that ball the shot before.
