Adam Smith takes a shot from the PPV Announcers in the US Open

Pu-Leeze... we are talking about a ball coming off the table and who went and got it....

Get ahold of yourself... you DO realize this is the US Friggin Open right? There can't be many bigger stories than this one, what do you expect people to do... sweep this under the rug?

:grin::grin::):grin-square:

Cali, I guess some people find poor sportsmanship not important, it's not what I taught my two daughters.

Give the guy a flipping break. I'd bet most that have replied negatively in this thread did not even witness the alleged incident.

I've witnessed Adam playing several times and he was a gentleman each of those times. He is human and this seems to be blown way out of proportion. JMHO

When I poop on the floor (rarely), I don't expect someone else to pick it up.

That said, in the heat of battle, everyone's had at least one incident where they didn't display impeccable sportsmanship.

I'm normally a pretty nice guy...but there have been times where I've gotten pretty pissed off at something I did wrong. I'm not blaming my opponent or anything, I just need to sit down for a minute and cool off...although I usually do my cooling off after I've chased down the cue ball that got away.

I understand where both sides are coming from here, because I've been on both sides of this debate.

I think that when an opponent is visibly flustered, that provides an opportunity to take advantage of a momentary weakness, like when a shark smells blood in the water.

I agree.
As soon as my opponent starts throwing chalk across the room I know i've won the match.

I find it more effective to hand the Q-ball to my opponent after any foul regardless how frustrating it is, just to show that it didn't affect me.
That doesn't mean I'm not talking to myself, taking extra blood pressure meds, and ordering more whiskey.

Possible situation is this! When the ball took off Gerda was the closest and went after the ball and Adam thoughts were let her get the ball instead of two players chasing it and interrupting other matches.

I'll bet everyone that plays has done this at least once. IMO

I played Adam years ago in Vegas and hung out in Kady's with him for abit after. He was a very cool and laid back guy. Everyone can have a bad day and Adam has had some things take place recently that should make people think twice before being reactionary and judgemental. He is definately one of the good guys in my books.

When you put it that way I see your point.

Far worse than that is Efren Reyes. Not only does he put the chalk upside down on the rail but he frequently runs all the balls off the table and never gives the opponent a chance! He even plays without teeth!! I'll tell you one thing, he would never make it in the APA.

Somebody should come up with a list of rules for the anally inclined.

...and she might have said, just loud enough for Adam to hear, "Don't worry, I got it."

I think this, combined with him being somewhat disgusted by his mistake, was the reasoning behind the supposed "faux pas". I wouldn't read too much into this. I've been around Adam Smith a time or two, and he's been nothing but a gentleman. Humble and easy to speak with, and enthusiastic about the game. Even if this was done purely out of an emotional fit, I can't help but give him a bye on it. He's human, just like everyone on this forum. If you're going to crucify him over this, might as well get in front of a mirror and do the same to yourself. No one's perfect.

I think the commentators made a casual comment about nothing that would have remained nothing had a thread not been started about it.

What is the New Guard? Unfortunately for Adam he happens to share a name with the world's most famous economist philosopher and so Google doesn't bring back a website for Adam Smith pool player.

Not that I could find anyway.

this link of a youtube video that features Adam and Dennis Hatch playing, references the New Guard, maybe they talk about it during the match... don't know.

I took a pic of the previous New Guard (referencing ''changing of the guard'') when CJ Wiley held his first PCA event in April of 1996, here I took a nice black and white pic of Shannon, Harriman, Tang Ho, Ginky/Mad Max together, somewhat with the same thinking as Rempe/Sigel/Diliberto/Liscotti pic of yrs ago next to the white Rolls Royce. I gave a copy to Max during the Bike Club event in Los Angeles a few yrs back.
