Adding one pocket to Mosconi events?

With the 30 Second shot clock. I'd love it, but it would be tough unless you had a very knowledgeable crowd...USA could win though.

What do you all think of that idea?

Most of the world can't SPELL one-pocket.
....but I hope it doesn't stay that way....need some Euro and Asian tournaments....
....and eventually a world championship.
The Netherlands is leading the way.

The one minute shot clock makes the game watchable for anyone.
We had the MIH on a big screen at our room....some of the guys that rarely play pool...
..(they come to eat and drink on the weekends) asked me what they were playing......
...assumed 8-ball at the start....they stayed and even tried predicting some shots.
These are the spectators needed to make pool a success.....
....snooker had a lot of house wives for viewers.

I think the format should stay as it is until we prove that we can win with some consistency. Changing the format to add one pocket may be ok but not now. It would look like we're changing the rules because we can't win with the way it is now.

Let's prove that we can win and then add some one pocket providing it's agreed by both sides.

I'm kind of with not adding it. I tried watching tournaments, but the bore and slowness factor was rather high.
Mosconi cup 9 ball is very exciting because it really moves forward at pace and shots are done to pocket balls and get shape for your partner, no matter the difficulty.

Cheers,
M

I would love if they had a Ronnie Allen cup!

There is so much better shot making in one pocket than you see in 9 ball.

I think it's an awesome idea, I do love me some one pocket! I will add this however. I think it should be a completely different event. Keep the Mosconi the way it is, but add a Mosconi one hole or whatever ya wanna call it. With alternating country locations each year you could have the one hole and regular offset so there will be one or the other event EVERY year in each continent. Sounds like a good deal to me!

In Maryland, about 16 years ago, subject to check, they had a one-pocket tournament. ESPN came to film. The tournament play was so slow-going and boring, the ESPN packed up their equipment and left, deciding it wasn't TV-worthy. :o

As well, one-pocket seems to be more of a popular pocket billiards game in the United States. In Europe and elsewhere, I am not sure one-pocket has caught on fully, though there are some one-hole enthusiasts for sure.

Time will tell, I guess. I would love to see it happen, but I'm not sure it will be good for TV viewing. One-pocket is a pool aficionado's game. It's hard to get excited about it if you don't love pool. Me, I could watch a good one-pocket match for hours and hours and never get bored with my horse in the pit. :grin-square:

8 ball would be much better, scotch doubles....30sec s/c.

doubles one pocket would be great with a short shot clock....like 10sec lol....

or just have each player drink a case of redbull prior to the match.....give earl two cases........

billy can commentate

on a serious note though.....maybe its just me, but american snooker talbes are much tougher than european style snooker table cuts.....both difficult in the least.

imop onepocket is best on a ten foot....but i find that one pocket in general is basically americas version of snooker.

snooker is boring.....golfs boring.....i dont think the popularity of pool games or pool in general is where its at in the USA is becuase its doesn't have enough pizazz and jazz fingers or moxie.

Got dam people watch golf sundays like zombies with belt buckles undone full of food....or facebook and play farmerville or whatnot........sunday comics are more exciting that that lol.

its because of understanding me thinks. baseball is boring in a way to watch too......everyone loves baseball....

i happened on this great article some time ago.....and its got some good points that apply to pool as well if you really think about it.

regards,
G.G.
