Advice On This Shot

I used a 90 degree drafting square (the right angle side of a drafting triangle).

Ball is clear of the tit at 90.

Here's my theory, for what it's worth. I'm not a particularly strong player, but somehow I've always been way better than my pay grade on extreme cuts like this. I always approach them the same way. For the OP shot, I'd use extreme outside left english, aim very slightly wide of the OB edge and hit it with force. My instinct has always been that in the milliseconds before the rightwards squirt fully asserts itself, the force of the stroke moves the CB very (very) slightly forward. At that point, the CB is approaching its target from a wider angle than it started from, making the cut more possible. No doubt, slow-motion video would disprove the physics, but that's how it feels.

ok -video challenge accepted

but i’ll need some time because i can’t get to a table for at least a week and there might not be time or a camera so maybe two weeks +
I make the back cuts (not the one in question yet) with center roll, inside, and outside. Theory being at close to 90 the balls glance off the contact point with very little bite. None of the mashing that thicker hits generate - provided you shoot with enough speed.

The inside or outside are more aiming methods to me. I favor inside to get that impossible to hit last sliver. I imagine outside would start with a non hit and come in for that sliver from the other direction.

If you like to live dangerously, start by feathering balls. The idea is to rock the object ball in its personal dimple. Start as close as you need and back out as you sharpen up.

How so? The shot seems to be cut it in the side. The rest is how you develop the ability. The extreme outside is just the fringe of cinching it. One could easily slam it and achieve an elevated and therefore thinner hit. One could outright jump it and hit the far side as well on and on...
Oh yeah, inside works too. Thins the actual hit if you have trouble hitting it.
What are you looking at? The diagrammed shot has no carom available.

I speak of the carom of the cue ball off the object ball. That's the carom. There need not be another collision. The reason this is vital to aiming cuts is at least twofold.
A) The carom is always perpendicular to the desired object ball direction and
B) The CB, OB, and carom are always in your direct line of vision.
Call it the ghost line because that's how it functions. It's far more accurate as well

One more thing there are several speed dependent shot changers but that's not the point here.

Once you get used to this, many shots can be visualized with the carom alone. A good exercise is to visualize balls at the other end of the table as cuts to the corners. Look for the perpendicular carom and start shooting them.

Baited vs. Bated: What's the Difference?
The words baited and bated have distinct meanings and usage despite their similar pronunciation. Baited is typically associated with luring or enticing, often used in contexts such as fishing where bait is employed to attract fish. Conversely, bated is related to the state of holding one's breath in anticipation or anxiety and is a shortened form of the archaic word 'abated', meaning 'to lessen or reduce in force or intensity.'

Yes, I still use viola when I mean voila in memory of Doug too. Baited breath is a good pun, while in memory of Doug, I used it long before I met him. I occasionally thank people for inciteful comments too. With spellcheck and such now it makes it often impossible to know if humor was intended or not. While they definitely help overall, spellcheck and AI are mixed blessings. I have been reading and watching a lot created by AI lately, partially to detect weaknesses in order to detect it in less obvious places like news articles.

Off topic for this thread but I am seeing AI is able to create a heavy presence of propaganda and indoctrinating horse crap. It is being used to create division and I don't think this is just to get hits.

Why is viola = vee oh lah instead of vih o lah as in violin??
I wont even bother asking why voila is =wal lah.

You boys are still in fantasy land with this shot? 1984 Efren isn't cutting DCP's original diagram. Nor is 2025 Filler.
