Anyone have any idea how old, specifically or approximately, this Tad is? Any help would be much appreciated.

Remove the bumper and it should have some numbers that help you answer that question.

Yeah, I'm aware there should be a serial # in there, but I don't want to remove the bumper until someone who knows how the # would correspond to the year posts something on the thread. I could take it off, but I have no idea whatsoever what the serial # would imply. Thanks, though.

??? you're saying you don't want to provide info until someone can say that the info is useful.

It really should be as simple as removing the bumper and calling the shop.

The serial number on a TAD cue can give you a general estimate of when the cue may have been made, but it is exactly that as an estimate. As suggested, call TAD custom cues and Fred can tell you the exact month and year it was made based on the serial number.

No worries. I understand hesitating. Even just removing the bumper can seem like messing with such a nice cue.

But I am here to help. Send me the cue and I will expertly remove the bumper and take close up pictures for your records. To do so will require daily playing for a couple of weeks as the vibrations properly loosen the bumper screw. Any other method is highly questionable.

I'll one-up you on that, Doc... pm me your address and I'll bring it to you ( for the same reason I drove across state to get it, I just don't trust any shipping service with it ). And I understand you're very busy so if it takes a couple of months, so be it. Even a year or more, I'm ok with that. And by all means, feel free to play with it as much as you need to. I only hit a couple balls with it and MAN does it feel nice.

Thanks, Doc... I had a feeling you would be the one here to extend your hand to help. I deeply appreciate it.

I don't mean to push the issue, but there is no complex assembly to worry about disrupting: The butt cap isn't going to come off and there should be no weight bolt to worry about.

If you can turn a screw and dial a phone number, you can have your answer in a few minutes.

I had a friend who is a cuemaker at the room this evening take a look at it. It's an allen screw but I do not have allen wrenches and he did not have a set with him. He is going to try to remember to put a set in the car and the next time i see him at the room, he'll get it off and we'll see what the serial # is. Sometime fairly soon after I'll call JJ cues and see what I can find out.

It's nothing earth-shattering. I simply am interested to see when it was made or at least the range of years. I was hoping someone here would know merely by seeing the photo or having the model #. It appears that won't be the case. C'est la vie. It will all work out in the end, I'm sure.

I'm pretty sure that's a JOSS and not a TAD.

Looks like someone slipped a TAD ring on a JOSS butt.

J&J Cues wouldn't be able to help you with regards to learning more details about the cue, you'll need to contact TAD Custom Cues directly with the serial number (Phone: 714-995-1644). As for this cue, the bumper screw shouldn't be an allen screw. Allen screws are fine threaded and go often into a weight bolt, which this cue shouldn't have one. The bumper screw for this cue should be a very small phillips wood screw, very easy to strip.

With how the thread was earlier, I don't know if he's messing with you or trying to be sincere...

Attached picture taken from one of Timothy Song's posts to show as an example of the bumper screw.

You know BS used to be here in Tulsa. From '74-'78 iirc. He made a lot of nice cues here. From the mid-70's thru the early 90's just about every good player around here had a JW. It was great being able to just go his shop for a tip or a wrap. Good times.
