I got a question, I am going to be flying with my cue and I need to buy another piece of luggage. I am torn between buying a rolling duffle and a regular suitcase.

The duffle bags that are large enough to hold my 34" long case are borderline or exceed the 62 linear inches maximum for checked luggage. Also I hear a lot of complaints on their quality.

The suitcases I looked at that comply to checked luggage are 29" but I am unsure if my case will fit. I have read less concerns from product quality on suitcases than duffle bags.

Can anyone give me some feedback on putting this size of a case into an approved bag?

I appreciate any feedback and assistance,

Steve

I use a lacrosse bag. This way I'm only having to check 1 bag. All my clothes fit and so does my case (Instroke 3x5). I've never measured the length but I've never had anyone tell me it was too long so I'm guessing it's fine. Used it for 3-4 years.

JBCases started a thread approx 2 months ago - search his thread history for it. he gives a link & jpg for a duffle bag that's compliant, and you can order online or find one at Dick's Sporting Goods. $30-$40.

Lee Brett has a mack-daddy rolling, insulated/padded one. it's the size of a golf club bag. yes, he has to pay the $50 oversized charge, but it's big enough for him to put EVERYthing in it - so he doesn't have to pay for a 2nd suitcase charge of $30. i think he said he paid $100 for it? maybe it was $200.

if you do a regular suitcase, it'll have to pack diagonal. then put your clothes around it. do NOT pack your cue WITHOUT the case! we did this going to Mosconi, and Delta owed us a new tip & ferrule....

it sucks that we can't carry-on. but that was a whole other thread topic.

I'm ignorant on this one,,, but having a pool case as a carry on a no no?
The TSA started forbidding pool cues on airplanes a long time ago. The ban was supposed to be dropped last April but the flight attendants protested that they didn't want to be clubbed by pool cues. Instead, Granny gets to take her five-pound metal-tipped cane onto the plane. Not to mention the guitar players who might break out into "Greensleeves" at any moment.

Two piece cues, add threaded handles equal canes? Or do you have to have a doctor's note about needing a cane(s)?

Wow did I luck out... I recently flew to JFK and brought my cue as a carry on (Its George 2X4).... I wanted to go watch the Pearl in action,,,, I flew up and back with no problem. Guess God does protect drunks and fools, and at any given time I am both simultaneously.

you get a GOLD STAR for the day!

1) for the above Statement of the Day :rotflmao1:
2) for slipping it through security - TWICE!

I travel for business and use a Delsey Rolling Duffle 34". Heavy cordura canvas. It won't fit a my Justis case but Whitten, Instroke 2/1, and fellini work well.

You still cannot carry on cues, only an empty case. I put my case/cues in a rolling duffle bag. Check it at the sky cap at least 1.5 hours before the flight and never had an issue. I got the rolling duffle cause I'm old and lazy, I ain't carrying nothing around the airport, I'm rolling it.:)

You can buy an bat/equipment bag for baseball/softball gear. They have a compartment for storing bats that is just the right size for a pool cue case. The rest of the bag has enough room for your clothes. All in all they are just the right size for your cue and several days change of clothes. They will run between 30 and 100 bucks. A good sporting goods store will carry them.
