Albin Ouschan vs Mike Dechaine - Winner's Bracket Round 3

What struck me about yesterday's matches was the speed of the two matches Sky and Archer were in. They took a really, really, really long time. The next round of matches was beginning, and Sky and Archer's matches were still going from the previous round. :o

Not sure if their opponents were slow. Slow play really stinks up a tournament chart, big time. Everybody has to wait.

I hope Sky does not get intimidated by veteran Johnny Archer's table demeanor, to include his killer instinct. It can be overwhelming if you haven't encountered it before. Off the table, Johnny is a nice guy. On the table, he pulls out all the punches and does whatever it takes to win. It takes a veteran to combat some tactics used in the heat of the battle. It will be interesting to see how Sky handles him. :D

It should be close. Sky has the better speed control of the two, and this format rewards good tactical play. Johnny may run out a little better, but this match should be a tight one. To be fair, both of them have the killer instinct that adds up to success.

No doubt there have been a few slow matches, but this tournament has really been running on schedule all week, and that's good news for players and fans alike.

OK, I'm back. Interesting match. Albin got most of the rolls, as Mark Wilson made clear. Mike had a 900 accu-stat rating (to Albin's 843) so he should have won more easily, although a skid on a five ball at 8-7 dug him a hole and Albin had a chance to win it.

Mark Wilson did another great job. It was a match with many emotional ebbs and flows, and Mark was quick to make note of how the players handled some of the ups and downs. Brandon Shuff observed that both of these guys may win a US Open one day.

Finally, Mark often complimented Mike's safeties. Albin certainly kicks well, too, and his kicking is what gave him a chance.

We can only hope that the next two stream matches are this exciting.

I am impressed with Mike's safety game. IMHO he has better safety game than Shane under pressure. In the modern game, I see few players with strong safety game

World ranking numbers don't tell all , I highly doubt. Albin is a top 10 9 ball player
And there's plenty of guys you have not heard of that can play

9

+1 Touche
I saw some of Albin in W9B and was not impressed with his play. He is some way from being serious contender for a major. He may be a dark horse but not a top contender
IMHO, if we benchmark world class, guys like Darren, Shane, Thorsten , Niels, KOs, Changs etc are 1st tier while Albin is 3rd tier
:D

FWIW, the bookmakers have this match as a "pick don't 10." :D

Let's be honest here -- Johnny can play painfully slow at times.

I've often wondered if this hasn't hurt his game just a bit over the years. He allows so many things to distract him from the game that it's amazing how well he can play. Too many balls in a pocket can bother him. Not enough balls in a pocket can bother him. The lent all over the table bothers him. A spec of chalk on the cue ball or an object ball bothers him. I don't remember him having all of these idiosyncrasies back in the 90's. It seems like they have all just slowly crept into his game. I would like to know how he can ever get into the "zone" with all these distractions.

Maybe he can't anymore.

I don't actually know what that means.

It's a "pick 'em," meaning you can take either side. But whoever you pick, the other guy cannot get to 10 games. That means your horse has to stop his opponent on 9 games or less. :)

Yeah, I agree with that line. Could be a nailbiter.

Nice work if you can get it.....they scoop everything on all hill/hill matches.
....I tend to bet with other sweaters for this reason.
