Alcano's 6 dry breaks.

meduim speed. like a slap break. SVB broke a ton of balls in. only 1 dry i remember.

wing balls dont go with a monster break.

But Shane spent all afternoon practicing the break. He was not making any balls on the break in the winners side finals so he got busy and worked on his break.

Alcano check his racks as did Shane and he approved them. Shane beat him twice and the hint that there was cheating is outrageous and needs consequences.

On the other hand it seemed strange and maybe contrived that the boys from the Phillipines were, for the most part, bracketed in the same grouping so they'd be playing each other early in the match.

Alcano is a great player, but c'mon, Shane beat him twice in the tourney and to suggest anything fishy was going on is poor sportsmanship. If you think a rack is bad, go and check it for gaps and such. My two cents

LOL...I wonder what mysterious forces were responsible for Alcano's scratches, misses and miscues. Obviously it had to have been a conspiracy.

Just like the hot seat match that went 11-4 was a set up.

No way that Shane just shot his nuts in.

To quote my man Frank Robutz:

"It ain't no fun when the bunny's got the gun."

I watched the entire match too! The suggestion of conspiracy against the Filipino players is absurd.

Granted Alcano was not potting well on the break but Shane took advantage of each opportunity and came away with the victory, end of story.

Congrats to Shane and Ronnie. The writer of the article posted above is out of line.. IMHO

ill tell you onw thig. in the 8 years i been going ive never seen a match so one sided. i dont think one oerson in the crowd wanted ronnie to win. when he came up dry on the break ppl were clapping

they both were real players. it was one of the best finals ive seen in a long time. most years the players are scared to death and the last 5 or 6 balls are a fight. these guys just ran out like it was practice. when gabe won it took him 5 mins to run 5 balls. shane with a smile on his face just played.

these 2 will be a force in pool for a long time

I gotta say the guy racking for the finals had a LOT of trouble racking in some of the other TV table matches.
The OTHER guy that also racked on the TV table did a much better job, nobody made him re-rack, and players made many more balls on the break more consistently. The one racking for the finals had to re-rack several times for Lee Van Corteza and a few others... including Shane. He just flat out didn't do a very good job from my 2nd row perspective.

On the other hand... they both had to deal with his racks, so go Shane!

I watched the semis and finals and Ronnie broke much better in the semis but with roughly the same break. Shane's brake wasn't too good when he played Mekari earlier Sat. He must have had 4 dry breaks in that match. I think the conditions change quickly on the TV table.

I was there too and I think you're exaggerating. Shane was the crowd's favorite but if there was clapping when Ronnie broke dry it was very minimal.

There was a share of Filipinos there certainly cheering for Ronnie.

Definitely exaggerated. Ronnie got almost as much applause. Anytime anybody got close to winning the crowd went wild (like when Ronnie sent Efren over)... it was much more wild when Shane got on the 9 ball for the event win, because it was the event win.

I sat very close to Ronnie Alcano in the finals at the US Open and he checked most of the racks and they must have been OK or he wouldn't have broke the balls. He did mumble under his breath a couple of times "nice rack" when he came up dry on the break. The break in 9 ball is big, but it's the same for each player with a neutral racker. If he didn't like the rack all he had to do was request a re-rack so saying the rack was bad was Ronnie's fault and no one else's.

Shane beat him twice fair and square!

James

I did not stick around for the final match, but I was there before it started. Shane had the racker racking time after time and Shane would just break them over and over again. He easily broke 20-25 times in a row just working on speed. This was before Ronnie even got to the arena.

I don't recall anyone clapping when Ronnie broke dry. I do remember being surprised at the amount of applause Ronnie was getting. He was definitely getting his fair share.
