It probably started at the DCC.
Earl woofing at Alex about playing on that 5x10.
He kept saying that Alex was afraid of him...
Alex kept saying that he didn't want to play him...
The third time it came up..
Alex said "I don't want to play you..I like you too much.
And I don't want you to quit the game."
Everyone laughed..well,except Earl.

So now..at the SBE
Alex did have trouble racking....and so did many other people.
Later on in the same match,Earl took about 10 minutes on a rack.
And Alex's rack was off..about one eighth inch..it was hard to get it right.

Seems to me that racking problems could be resolved a couple ways.
Find out where the table racks best and agree to BOTH rack there.
Or best of all..use a neutral racker.

The Lion says he likes to have some fun when he plays...
and this match wasn't fun.
It in no way affected his later results...he said they played well
and kept him in his chair too long.

He also spoke highly of Shane as a player and a competitor.
Shane just plays on you..doesn't seem too much to ask.

I saw Alex at the SBE on Saturday and personally it was a pleasure. It can get very tense in that room, you can hear a pin drop. Not when Alex is in there, he has fun and so does the crowd.

As for the woofing, he pretty much was saying "Earl get off my $hit" in a nice way.

I liked watching Alex play when I was there too. He had a pretty hot blond watching his matches.

On a 5x10, Alex would have to use the bridge 75% of the time...or make a rule that he could crawl on the table... :D lol

I think we all know that Alex just doesn't want to put up with Earl's BS for the duration of a long race. Earl would have to put up 3:1 to negate that and make it worth while.

pt109...That's why many tournaments today are rack your own. Nobody can *****...and probably what the SBE should do too.

Poor little dude! Threatening him with a 10'er!:grin-square:

Alex must be really quaking in his boots.
He was grew up in Toronto and is familiar with a snooker table.:D

For example:
2005 Philippines Snooker Team Gold Medal, SEA Games:D

Now you know why the rest doesn't intimidate him.

I've had problems in 'rack your own' tournaments also....
..and I've always been willing to take the worst of it.
Ran a 4-pack on a guy years ago...in a 'rack your own'
On the fifth he got up to inspect the rack..said the two balls behind
the one weren't touching each other...tried the rack 3 ways...
..and said I couldn't get them touching IN the rack.
He said he could do it..I handed him the rack and said "Show me."
He couldn't do it either so that was the end of it.
If he wanted to spend too much time racking...think I would've quit.

So I think a neutral racker is the best solution.
Golf has always had marshals who donate their time.
Lot of good people in pool...we need this support also.

Rack your own actually works well when it's in alternative break format tournament IMO. Otherwise, I've had pretty bad experience with it when both my opponents and I constantly paid way too much attention to how the balls were racked.

When I was in college many years ago, and I played in just about all inter-collegiate tournaments, when the tournament reached the business ends of it, the TD would start assigning neutral players to rack for the matches and the TD himself would help racking for the final two matches. It worked flawlessly well!

Since Earl got kicked for talking during their match, I'm curious whether Alex was talking.

Alex is used to playing snooker on a 6 x 12, bridge or no bridge.
He would be a big fav against earl on a 5x10 and he knows that.
In fact if earl put enough $ Alex would play him.

Alex always talks.
He's a throw-back to Keith McCready,Jim Mataya, and the Fat Man.

But one should be held accountable for WHAT you say.
To me,when Earl called the TD a fool...he crossed the line.
A ref or td has to remain objective...insults make that impossible.

And this is coming from a person who thinks Earl has GIVEN to the game
far more than he has taken.

Scott, both of the 10-ball tournaments the past two weeks (Masters and SBE Pro Players Championship) were rack your own. Alex was racking his own when Earl complained about an allegedly tilted rack.

The older I get, the less I care about little things like this. Granted, you will, one way or the other, come across players that would do just about anything to 'cheat' the system. On the other hand, I believe if we all reinstitute a little bit of faith in the game, we all will have a better day, winning or losing.
