Alex Pagulayan, sly one-pocket move

I'm pretty sure I'm seeing this right.

I'm currently watching the Accustats video of Alex playing against Charlie Bryant in one-pocket, 2005 DCC. It's the fourth rack, and Alex just made a small run to get him out of the negatives. He goes to spot up the 4 ball, and, from what I'm seeing, he put it right up against the (15/11) ball so that it combo/caroms dead into his pocket. I've got the video stopped at a good angle, and I can't line up the spot and back diamond of the table to where Alex spotted his ball up. It looks like he purposely spotted the 4 ball to the right of the spot line so that he has the dead combo Bryant can't do anything about. And Bryant hasn't noticed a thing.

Can anyone confirm what I'm seeing?

Hurry up - say something to him before he shoots. :D
Just playing - I cannot confirm what you are saying or seeing. How far off center is it?

BWTadpole,

Sorry buddy, I can't help you. I have Irving Crane vs Jim Burke on pause in my VCR. It's an early Accu-Stats with no sound from the 1986 World 14.1 Championships.

But, this thread reminds me of when my kids were little and had Sesame Street on the TV. I remember each program started with the same little phrase..."Today, this program is brought to you by the number 7 and the letter A". Of course, each day, the letter and number changed, but the opening phrase was the same.

This is a 14.1 day at my house. Ooops, my bathroom and refill the diet coke break is over. Gotta go watch the rest of the match.

BTW, I already have tomorrow's match picked out. I'm going to watch the Gary Spaeth vs Buddy Hall Bank Pool Accu-Stats match up from the 2000 Derby City Classic for the 7th or 8th time.
My wife picks out her clothes the day before, I pick out my Accu-Stats :)

I can't say exactly how much, and after watching a little bit further into it, it almost like minisculely off line. Just by judging Bryant's reactions, it looked like he saw it was wired.

I would guess that sometimes it happens when you spot a ball it is wired. If he spotted it and it was off by just a hair -I would guess that moving it a hair it would still be wired. Just a guess.

You're misunderstanding me. I'm not saying it was weird because it was wired.

I'm saying that the ball looks visibly off-line.

I'm sorry to take the wind out of your sails for ripping on a random person on an internet forum, mate.

I'll apologize for the hijack but how was Irving Crane hitting them in 1986? He would have been about 73 years old by then. I've got the 1966 150 ball run and it's a classic.

I've got the '07 derby city Parica/Reyes one pocket dvd from accustats and Parica is shooting over the 8 ball and touches it with his cue. Either that isn't a foul or nobody else caught it because he proceeded to shoot anyway. Didn't matter, Reyes beat him 24 to -1.

Since this is the same Alex who called a foul on himself to cost himself an IPT Tour Card I would have to say that he did not purposefully misalign a spotted ball.

I have played many, many, many games with Hillbilly and I can guarantee that he watches for stuff like this. If there was something funny going on, he would have caught it. Even in our casual, non-gambling 1P games, he always plays the same. That is, he makes sure spotted balls are set right. He's called me out for goofing up spotting a ball playing 1p and 14.1.:o

That said, from what I've heard, Alex P. isn't the type to try something like this anyway but I don't know him.

I have a copy of the video, but I can't find it right now. Thanks for the thread. It has given me a reason to watch the match again as soon as I find it.:D :)

Really alstl, I should be the one to offer the apology for the hijack.
That's what I guess my response seemed like, but I was trying to be funny. But sometimes, I'm the only one who thinks I'm funny:confused:

As to your question, Irving Crane was not quite the player in 1986 as he was in his heyday, which, by the way, spanned from the 1930's to the 1970's! He was at least 50% below his top speed in the 1986 match, which he still managed to win.

if any of you havn't seen it, the match between Irving Crane & Joe balsis in 1965 (i think) is awesome. Very worth seeing in my opinion.

just thought i'd help hijack this thread:D

JB,
At the DCC IPT qualifier last year (2006 I believe), George Breedlove was on the hill against Pagulayan, and with a couple of easy balls left called a foul on himself. Pagulayan came to the table and ran out the set. Was this the incident you are referencing???

Yes it is. I was watching that match and only George could have known it was a foul. Showed lots of class and respect
