All is lost

Good to see that even in far off Philipines they know that 9b sucks. This also shows why they are so tough when they get over here. Crummy tables, stupid humidity and lots of hungry opponents. Breeding ground for monster players.
The place they guy are playing Pool needs the help of reality TV making over people.

Fix it up, clean it up, paint, it could look better then Grifs in Sun City.

The turn the guy over to the Queer Eye For Straight Zguy make over team, Haircut s & Wardrobe, and perfection would be created.

In another thread someone remarked about Shane Van Boening practicing 8 hours a day. These guys are in action at least that many hours a day.

How dare they dress so casual while playing billiards. They are giving pool a bad name dressing so slovenly.
Didn't know they were professionals. Not one mullet in sight. At least they have that going for them.

I love the Philippines. Every neighborhood has a poolroom like this! Notice all the people moving around, standing by the table and all the activity going on while someone is shooting. That's what makes these guys shark proof. I guarantee there is real money bet on this match. It could well be something like 3000 or 5000p ($60-$100) but that is real money over there.

Remember these guys grew up playing Rotation, so Ten Ball is simple by comparison.

We the one thing I did not figure out was the guy marking, or placing a marker in the long rail.

what was he doing Jay❓

The ref puts small chalk marks next to a ball that could be moved during a shot, so it can be replaced. They play cue ball fouls only. Marks on the rail can signify fouls. They also play the three foul rule.

Looks like there was a pile of talc on both long rails near the side pockets, used often by both players, and also used by the refs to mark positions of a number of balls. I didn’t quite understand the reason for that, as spread out as the balls they were marking were setting? The table looked like it played pretty good, but on the slow side.

What are the chances of a table playing slow in a humid climate and possibly w/o AC? About 110% I would guess.

Correct. I've played in poolrooms when the humidity was 90% and the table played like mud. Not to mention the dead rails and chipped balls. That was all part of the challenge for me. I come from the bar table era where conditions like that were normal, plus obstructions as well to deal with. I could still win if I got 61 points before my opponent (Rotation). Early on I figured out that almost all the points are on the high balls (9-15) and riding those balls early in the game and trying to luck them in was a winning strategy. The Pinoys like to try to run out because they see Dennis, Efren and Busti doing that. That is a losing strategy unless you play top speed pool. I never tried running any balls until I got to the eight or nine ball when there were fewer balls on the table.

I'm sure that over a ten year period (2005-15) I played in fifty places like that just in Pasay City and Metro Manila, plus another fifty in all the provinces I visited. A normal bet was 100p a game and 500-1,000p ($20) was a big game. It reminded me of running around L.A. looking for action in the 60's and 70's when I was a kid. Kind of a flashback which I greatly enjoyed. Just like playing in the "Hood" in L.A., I was usually the only foreigner in the place. I had a great time even though I didn't understand all the tagolog chatter, and everybody was happy to have me gambling with them. I still have a Predator stick over there but didn't really look for a game the last few times I was there (2016-19). I only played pool with my wife-to-be and focused on her. I won the lottery when I found her and wasn't about to dog it!

My friend tries to coach me on my 9B break at times. The thing is, I'm purposely only making one ball on the break and playing for CB control and a shot on the low ball. If I make 2-3 on the break, the guys I play with run out! Much better to make one ball and get a chance at the last handful of balls. 😂

I'm guessing there is no such thing as a smoke free pool room in the Philippines. Am I right?
