Allen Hopkins--do you post here?

I don't think Allen posts here. A few years ago, I asked him when we were all out to dinner if he knew about AzBilliards, and he said that his family lets him know about important topics here. I do not believe Allen knows how to work on a computer, posting to forums and the like, but his son does for sure.
BTW, Allen picked up the tab for us all at that dinner. What a classy guy he is! I am so glad he is going to be in the Hall of Fame this year!

He doesn't post here. He doesn't have a sidearm stroke either...it's a stroke with a super short back-stroke and all follow-through. It developed as a kid because he didn't have enough room to stroke on his home table.
In addition to having a heart the size of a tractor trailer, his short-stroke mechanics made him a killer gambler... not many moving parts to break-down.

You guys should listen to the latest episode of Run Out Radio, there's a great interview with him there and it talks about the origins of his stroke (small basement). Great interviews overall, with Allen and also (separately) Pat Fleming, both talking about their careers and their induction to the Hall of Fame.
im not sure if hopkins is the guy you want to immulate when it comes to stroke. I mean if you can't pocket balls consistently no stroke in the world is going to help you, because you can stroke straight, but if aim crooked the ball isn't going to drop.
I just watched some old Hopkins one pocket from 1991. He was the best player in the world at 1-P then and was a treat to watch.
He beat Diliberto 5-3 after being up 3-0. Billy I asked him if he got worried when Danny got close. Allen just laughed and said " I really felt I could win the match any time I wanted to."
In one of Robert Byrne's books, he has a story about Allen. Allen says he beat a guy for 90,000 at one pocket and then the guy bought him dinner and mentioned how classy that was. I'm not sure if the 90K is true, but Allen was tough for the cash.
Diliberto did say on a Hopkins/Cook match that Steve Cook beat Allen for $12,000 in Florida one time, though.

For those of you who don't know what a basement is, that's downstairs where the pool table goes when you live in Jersey. There is never enough room and always a pole in the way.

fan-tum...However successful it has been for Allen, Hopkins' stroke is never one I would recommend, or try to teach anyone! You haven't tried EVERY conceivable method. Come to pool school. Your stroke will get fixed...guaranteed!
