Allen Hopkins Presents: Team DMIRO Nationwide 10 Ball Tour

I think all of these little tours should stop popping up and someone take the sponsor money and start a real tour. Must be a 1,000,000$ a year in sponsor money with all these tours. $1200 for 1st doesn't go far and no one could win 1 per week to make a career. Anyone ever take the time to add up all the money in these little events to get an idea of the total sponsor money?

There are a lot of folks who, for one reason or another, couldn't go to or pay for the bigger tours and the little ones keep them involved, which creates and continues the interest in the game. Without the little tours, the big tours wouldn't be so interesting, because a lot of folks wouldn't care about a game they might not ever have a chance to get involved in. Unlike football, most folks can play pool and enjoy a little competition. Take away the competition and you take away their interest in the game. Who wants to support a game they aren't interested in? (Also, not everyone expects to make a living off the little tours.) So, the little tours have just as much need to exist as the big ones, if not more.

8-Ball as the game played by the pros on a tour did not fail. The organization that chose to have a pro 8-ball tour failed to live up to it's promises. In spite of that they did pump more money back into the pool economy from outside the pool world than just about every other entity that has put on tournaments. Yes, they ripped off a lot of folks through $2000 qualifier entry fees, yes they raised the hopes and dreams of pro players to previously unthinkable levels and then crushed them with a spectacular flame out. If they had succeeded in flipping the tour to a larger company that could have secured real television for a couple seasons then we would all be trying to qualify on the 8-ball tour right now.

I don't think it's a question of 10 ball vs. 8-ball - rather 10 ball vs. 9 ball. I can tell you that depending on the rules used 10 ball is WAY harder and way less attractive to amateurs when going heads up against the pros. Having just watched the women's 10 ball and the China Open women's 9-ball back to back I can tell you that 9-ball is waaay easier and rewards the person who gets the rolls way more.

If this is going to be a pro tour then there should be more than 2000 added because you will be hard pressed to find a lot of amateurs willing to donate to the pros at $100 entry fees. At least this is my opinon based on what I have seen with the tours that use the easier game of nine ball.

100 might be a bit much for many. However an angle that I would use is to contact any and every league.
They can have a Mini event just for their own players and an Amatuer will get a chance to play with the big boys.

Pool Rooms in range of qualifying events can do the same even excluding the Top guys or running seperate events.
These events need to have particpants and satellites would help build the field and hopefully some fans/followers.

If I owned a room and set a tourney date I would have Satellites regularly up to the event.

As for the game I really don't think it matters. All games have failed before or was it the Organizations running it. Pool is boring even to
us pool players. This needs to be remembered and figure out a way to make it exciting.
I enjoyed watching the IPTs 8 ball. Maybe because it was different or maybe it was the fun of figuring out a pattern and then seeing what the Pro would do.

chattanooga pool rooms

What a great responce! I think I just sent over 15 e-mails! Well lets keep it going. These are the cities I am looking at. Rather "regions"

New York
Baltimore
Philadelphia
Raleigh
Atlanta
Orlando
Miami
Tampa
New Orleans
Dallas
Houston
Phoenix
San Diego
Sacramento
Boise
Chicago
Indianapolis
Louisville
Chatanooga
Cleveland
Buffalo
Syracuse
Providence
Boston
Atlantic City

If you can think of other cities and rooms that host tournaments please feel free to send the .pdf to them this is a very plain and basic list!

Chattanooga, TN really doesn't have a place that has 12 9 foot tables :angry:

Today

All of that makes sense. The rooms that I have talked to plan on having satilites. It is a great way for them to advtertise and get players in thier rooms PLAYING 10 Ball...

What happend to the Chatanooga billiard club? That place had a ton of tables all new Gold Crowns when I was there about five years ago...

Mike, just a few questions... I am a little confused (as usual) and what rules are going to be used?

As far as the pay out, there of course will be green fees like all the other tours. 10.00 per person, given back to the room owners from their money they ad. All the other tours work it that way...

HOWEVER, If I get the sponsor I am working on, we are adding an additional $1,000 per stop! So that is $2,000 added! BUT Don't quote me on that as of yet... It is still in the works...

So the room owners will only have to add $1000 and your sponsor will add the other $1000? I was under the impression that the room owners were to put up $2000 and they were going to get 'sponsor product' to sell to compensate for the added money?

The top 5 players in each city will be invited to the Super Billiards Expo March 2010 for an invitational only event, with money added. Not sure on the amount yet Allen and I are still working on that! BUT it will be from $5,000 - $25,000 in that rage. WITH NO Entry fee...

Are these the top 5 players from the tournament? (you'll have a tie for 5th-6th with a Double Elimination format, a bigger tie with Single elimination format 5th-8th) or are just the top players in the CITY chosen by a committee? please explain

Problem is we need to secure the dates for some of our sponsors to PROVE that we are going to have a tour, so I have to get that all in place first... I do now have some sponsors, who have trusted the fact that we are going to make this happen.

By the way, what type of tournament format are you planing?

It has NOT been that hard with Allen being a part of the tour!

Well said.......

I run a 10-Ball Tour up here in the northeast, and I can tell you that once you get over 1 and 1/2 hours driving distance you have to try and draw on a whole new set of players, because thats about the max most players will travel for a regional event.

Great questions!

The rules will be out soon, but what we are doing is, racking the 2 and 3 at the bottom corners of the rack. 10 Ball on the break dosnt count.

Also yes the tied players will be invited.

The format will be released soon, we are still debating that, but I will have it to you guys this week.

As far as the room owners, most are can only afford 1000.00 so that is what we are setting it at. We are working with other sponsors to add an aditional 1000, BUT that is not confirmed yet. So as it stands each room will onyl have to add 1000. This is due to the large amount of calls I have recieved lately about the tour.

Unless you are me! I drive to Philly to play events thats a 5 hour drive for me. I guess you have to choose between playing pool and sitting at home on your butt!

Thanks Mike I just got your email looks good can't wait to see the web site.

I am going to pass this along to a few places here in Charlotte. I guess we will see what happens from it. I hope we get one event here at least.

Caspers just south of Houston has all ninefoot tables and so does C Gue Billiards in Round rock (outside of Austin).

No plans for Los Angeles (Hollywood Billiards or Hard Times)? And in Orange County, Danny Kuykendall might be interested in having an event at his place near Anaheim.

YES! You read that right. We are starting a Nationwide 10 Ball Tour. Mike Howerton from AZ Billiards is working on the website right now, www.teamdmiro.com -- the website is NOT up yet.

DMIRO (Don't Miss I'll Run Out)

Tonight I have sent out a mass e-mail to pool rooms around the nation. We are doing 25 stops in major cities across the US.

Then hopefully next season we can make it larger! We have top sponsors, all of which will be released when Mike gets the website done.

What I need is players across the US to e-mail me, once you e-mail me I will send you a .pdf file that I ask you to print off and give it to your local pool room owners, and have them contact me to be added to the tour. This is going to save us MASSIVE amounts of money, and prevent us from dong a mass snail-mailing. THEREFORE I don't have to spend sponsorship dollars to mail this file out, and those sponsorship dollars will be added to the tour stops! So you help me out and we can add more money to the stops!

ALSO Please only give it to rooms that have 9 foot tables. They must have at minimum 12 tables, with decent cloth! (preferably Simonis)

So, e-mail me; request the pdf file and I will e-mail it to you. Let the room owners know that some dates are taken as of now, however, in the pdf file that isn't updated, becuase I want to talk to as many room owners as I can! This way I can talk to them about next season where we are going to try and do 40+ stops! e-mail me at teamdmiro@gmail.com

Also if you are interested in being a sponsor of the tour, we do have some spots still open. E-mail me with your company name, products, and I will send you information on being a sponsor.

I also expect to see all of you out on the tables when we hit the road in August.

Open/Pro $100.00 Entry
Amateur $65.00 Entry (with no objections from the feild some players may play as amatures)
