Allen Hopkins has thrown in his full support behind the pro men in his upcoming 20th Anniversary Super Billiards Expo!
Hopkins is one of the greatest promoters in pool's history and one of its greatest champions, and the ABP is proud to be associated with his great name and excellent reputation.

This will be the first ABP event where the ABP rankings, and rules / format will take place.

From all the players worldwide, thank you Allen for helping professional pool

Players may join the ABP at the event. or email ABPpropool@gmail.com

Is this a 10-ball tournament? And if yes, what are the rule differences between WPA rules and ABP rules?

Dear ABP

From the sounds of the press release, Allen Hopkins is one great promoter that has put on great events for us amateurs over the last 20 years. Please dont screw it up for us amateurs.

According to the ABP website, you have 65 members. Also reading your mission statement you will advertise this event to the top 50 players in the world.

Could the ABP please make a press release stating what players that are part of the ABP, and top 50 in the world, that are actually gong to be participating? From a spectators point of view, it would be nice to know a few weeks prior to the event so one could maybe make plans to come and watch?

I would suspect all 65 members of the ABP listed below are participating since the Promoter has made his event up to ABP standards. But, maybe I will wait to see an actual list of entries before I start jumping to conclusions.

Also, is there going to be any Pro Am's where we as amateur players can play along with the Pro's? They have one Pro Am listed, but that is for only 32 players and a pretty pricey entry fee. Any smaller entry events or Charity events that the ABP will be putting on during the Expo?

Thank You

3 things;

1. Is this the same list Bustamante had no knowledge of until Justin asked him about it at TAR#24?

2. What will this accomplish if it's the only event all year?

3. Will the ABPPros user answer questions here or is he/she going to be like the Dragon Promotions poeple and only use the forum to make self serving press releases?

re point #1, to include Efren, if I recall correctly...

re point #3.... I think we already know the answer.

I am going to keep my opinions about the ABP and their affilliation with CW and Dragon to myself.

On a positive note, however, Allen Hopkins has *always* been about doing what is best for the pool player. If Allen thinks this is a good move, then I believe his agreement to work with ABP is for the betterment of pool in general. That is how Allen rolls.

right on JAM! Allen is a good dude, and too much fun to hang with!

Being 1/2 hour away I am looking forward to the SBE as always.

If you join a forum, and start a thread, its extremely rude not to take part of the dialogue that thread creates, and reply to questions which come up - at least if the dialogue is civil.

IMO that's called spamming and should be dealt with by the moderators.

Perhaps being accused of spamming doesn't mean much to the people behind the ABP posts, but they should think twice about how much it hurts their organisation to be despised by the pool community just because of an arrogant attitude.

1. Bustamante's manager Puyat confirmed him, Efren, and Pagulayan memership to ABP. Puyat has the management rights to those players. They play/or not play according to Puyat's decisions
2. There will be more events. This was just the first.

Escrow

All funds for the Pro event at the SBE have been or will be escrowed? or are we just supposed to take the ABP's word for it. Seems like that was the main sticking point, for the US Open boycott.

I guess if I were Bustamante, I'd be asking my business manager what else he says I speak for, since he never informed his clients of that decision.

Very interesting stuff.

thanks for the reply, you should make it a habit.

I would venture to guess or even wager on the Internet, something I don't do, that the IP address of ABPpros is the same as Dragon.

There's nothing wrong with that, other than the lack of transparency, which is a trait that the now-defunct UPA has in common with the ABP.

The ABP would be better served by being more forthcoming than hiding behind a curtain, like the Almighty Oz. Let's see, and get to know, who the wizard is, for gosh sakes. :o

It might be kind of cool to know a kinder and gentler ABP that actually cares what the readership of this forum thinks. In fact, being transparent could be a catalyst for other like-minded folk to step up to the plate and help them with their mission. :)

With Alan being an integral part of the billiard industry and a man along with Dawn (I know they split up) who has done allot to support the game, I would find this announcement having more impact it came directly from him.

I understand what you mean for sure. :)

We were out to dinner with Allen sometime ago, and the discussion of AzBilliards forum came up. We then engaged in a colloquy about this forum as well as the current events happening in the pool world at that time.

Allen, by his own admission, said he does not have the knowhow to navigate on the Internet, but he did add quickly that his son, Allen Jr., keeps him apprised of the goings-on as it pertains to the Web. ;)

Sometimes I think Allen is better off not reading a pool forum. In fact, he's doing just fine keeping the annual SBE thriving as well as other high-profile pool extravaganzas. I have had several conversations with him about the future of pool in the United States in the past, private conservations, and he is one of the most forward-looking people I know, always thinking about how to help professional pool world survive during these tough economic times. :smiling-heart:

When it comes to Allen Hopkins Sr., he's probably the only industry member I know in this American pool world who thinks of the pool player first in his decision-making process. Sure, he's got to keep his sponsors and supporters happy, but he never forgets his roots. That's what separates him from all the rest. He's a promoter, a sponsor, an industry member, a tournament director, but he will always be a player first and foremost in his own mind, I think.

I like Allen. Can you tell?! :p

I think this is a very different situation. The U.S. Open has a very long track record of either not paying out completely or VERY delayed payments.

Allen's even has never (to my knowledge) not paid out on-site. In fact, the year that I went, he even added an impromptu 16 player (no entry fee, all added money) women's event just to support the WPBA pro's that were attending on behalf of their sponsors and to keep the pro arena tables filled as the men's event got down to the final 16.
