Allen Hopkins' short/push stroke.

yes, Allen has short poke stroke. Danny Dliberto also has poke stroke but his poke is little longer than Allens. Does not matter whether there is a back swing or not, both Danny and Allen were champions during their time.
In 90s Some body video taped/ or did some kind of studies on Allen`s stroke and found out that he had follow through in his stroke enough to sink the ball and get the cue ball where ever he wanted.

One final comment if I may.
When you are pitching pennies, don't you think you are more accurate with a long smooth backward and forward motion vs. no movement and just a pitch?
You may be able to gain accuracy with a short stroke, but, IMHO, you would not get your cue ever to feel like it was an extension of your arm ala 'The Hustler'.
