Allison Fisher- out in two

I can not imagine the tremendous pressure on Alison, after losing her first match. Most people going two in out, is just another day in the life, but for her it ignites threads, I am sure big headlines on the main page and IP and BD and just wow!

When the world expects you to always win that must become a huge weight. Knowing Alison a little, I think she will take it with grace and style and enjoy the casino and this unexpected vacation. Then she will go home and practice!

Congrats to Iris and esp Sarah, who I also know a little... she has a ton of talent and just needs a little confidence to make the breakthrough she is so on the verge of!

congrats to Sarah. Very happy for her. I hope she uses this win to motivate and rededicate herself, and if she does so, I see her winning an event soon.

Great job Sarah! Congratulations!!!
Don't get too happy yet, though. You still got more matches to go... :)
Good luck to ya.

Thanks for the play by play details. It's a nice touch to get an extra sense of the flow of the match.
I gotta nitpick one small detail though...

How did Sarah make 2 on the break, and then run out the next 6 balls?
2 + 6 = 8 not 9. Unless she made 2 balls on one shot....

Curiosity

I love good questions!

However, I do not know the answers, lol! I got the info from the wpba website when they had it up there at first during the play by play, and now it's gone. :(

Sarah can tell us later. Good job, Sarah!

Congrats to Sarah Rousey. I was very impressed with her play in Michigan City, and told her as much. Guess she's still playing well.

The biggest story is that Allison will likely lose her #1 WPBA ranking.

Xiaoting Pan, Karen Corr, and Ga Young Kim all have it within their grasp. Sunday should be a very exciting day at the US Open, especially if all thee reach the TV round. As we know, Karen Corr held the #1 ranking for over a year from 2001 - 2002. Other than that, Allison has been #1 for the last twelve years! Xiaoting and Ga Young are established stars of the WPBA and either would be a worthy #1.

Good luck to all of them!

Coincidentally, Roger Federer is also in danger of losing his #1 ranking this Sunday to Rafael Nadal. Bob Dylan was right: "the times they are a changing."

Iris Ranola has just defeated Helena Thornfeldt 9 to 2. She is now in the top 16 and maybe a dark horse to win or at least be in the final 8 or even 4.

Most impressive. Iris is obviously no fluke and she is the story of the tournament, already having beaten two former US Open champions. I recall posts a couple of weeks ago relating how superbly Iris plays, and she has certainly backed it up at the US Open.

So far, this is somewhat reminiscent of the unseeded Ga Young Kim's march all the way to the US Open final, which she lost double hill, in 2003. Let's see how far Iris can run with this.

I'll tell you what. You've got to play pretty good to get to the final 24 of a WPBA tour stop. Just take a look at the brackets. I wonder if Aileen Dimmick is the former Aileen Pippin? And who is Pam Cimarelli? Never heard of her. Alice Rim is having a good run too.

Yes, Aileen Dimmick is the former Aileen Pippin. Wondering who Pam Cimarelli is. Might be the married name of former BCA 8-ball champion Pam Bell, who is a storng player.
