make that 4 years in a row for Allison in Peoria. she won over Helena tonight 7-1 in the finals. wasnt there, left her on her own for the finals this time, and she came through. i was there for her early match against Monica, which i believe she won 7-3, or thereabouts.

had a great time, already looking forward to next year.

Honestly, can anyone stop her?? Consistently?

It was interesting looking at the bets that people made in the vBookie section. No one seems to have any respect for Karen's game.

I for one certainly have respect for Karen's game but I just don't see how you can bet against Allison. Allison is having an exceptional year (another) and Karen hasn't performed to her usual standards.

I just made a whole lotta v-cash with allison  maybe i'll bet for karen when she makes a comeback.

Allison is the best female pool player to ever play the game.

Somebody can say Balukas was but she did not play long enough to prove it. Allison has done it and keeps doing it. She shot an an accu-stats .965 in the final, which was disappointing for her. She miissed 2 balls.

watching her play gives me shivers...

any arguments??????

The only time I saw Jean Balukas play she beat Larry Liscotti 11-1 in the U.S. Open men's division. She had a win over Buddy Hall, I think on the men's tour. I don't know what her highest finish was. And I think she won 14 women's tournaments straight. Allison is a great player, maybe the best, but Balukas had a power stroke like the men players. It'd be great to see her play now. Maybe she'll show up on the IPT?

It is hard to distinguish the two, Balukas and Fisher. However, from what I have been told, Jean Balukas broke the balls better than most men, and when she was competing in some of the "open" events which welcomed female players, none of the male players took her for granted and were sweating it big time.

One thing to consider when comparing players from one era to another era is that the equipment was quite different then, slow cloth, no jump/break cues, and the push-out rule was in effect. I believe Allison Fisher is the BEST female player in these times.

FWIW, the majority of pool mags from the early 1980's has Jean Balukas on every cover and headline story, labeling her as "Queen Jean." Never before was there a domination of the women's tournaments like Jean Balukas. Allison Fisher currently is enjoying the same celebrity on a women's tour, which wasn't in existence in Jean's heyday. I like Allison's style, and she's an asset to the game/sport, very approachable and genuinely nice to all who meet her. :)

IMO i think if the womens tour, wasnt a Alternate break format, Allison wouldnt have nearly as many wins as she does.

I am sure she would still be a force to deal with, but there would be alot more new faces on TV.

And i only say this because, the only reward you get in the alternate break format is getting to the table to break every other rack, because if you break n run, your still letting your opponent back to the table.

This is expecially consider'd if the opponent is on the hill, and you just won a game, now your opponent has the chance to win the match, and you have no control over it.

I am sure everyone has seen it on TV where there is a instance like that.

Nope. When Allison shows up everyone else is playing for 2nd place.

Interesting point about the alternate break format. It would be interesting to see a womens event where the winner breaks.

_____________________________________________________________

As far as the Balukas v. Fisher comparison, Balukas played in an era that only had one other women who was actually good and that was a 15 year old kid named Loree Jon. Other than those two and maybe a couple more were added in the late 80's, when Jean quit, that was the womens tour. In Fisher's era, there are at least 3-5 other womens players that are actual threats to beat her and Karn Corr is really the only player that can actually beat her. Jeanette Lee, Kim and a couple of others are always the dark horse of any tournament...

Ga-Young Kim is the only woman I see as challenging Allison and Karen in the near future.

I like that hehehe, i know if i was playing on their tour i would be like hmmmmmmm who is gonna win this one Allison or Karen, and who is making the other two spots.

yes Allison does lose lol, even though its a rare thing it does happen.

I know myself and even some or probably even most of the ladies on tour would like to see the events goto a Winner break format.

That is one of the first things that one of my friends and I talked about when we got to the tournament. I have always liked the winner breaks format better. Gives a player more of a chance to make a comback (if they get to the table :) ) and puts a bigger premium on keeping control of the table.

The only real draw back to having a winner break format, is you seriously need to make it a longer race in the tournament, Like a race to 11 or 13, and then have the matches on TV a race to 11, which would be nice.

I tend to look at alot of the matches that end up really lopsided on TV, where a longer race would be nice, cuz in a race to 7, alternate break, its mainly a question of who breaks first and who makes the least mistakes.

Plus i would love to see the ladies putting a 6pack down on TV

Now recently the Archer vs Holhman where Archer got smoked 7-0. I think he got to the table maybe 5times, i dunno, and 3 of the times, he was breaking. Thats a good example of why not to do the alternate break format, Archer literally had no chance of winning, after Holhman was up 3-0.

The only time your gonna see a lady putting a 6pack down on TV is if they show her drinking beer after she lost a match.

And as far as winner breaks being decided by who breaks first (meaning they better practice their lagg) and who makes the least mistakes. Shouldnt the one who makes the least mistakes be the one that wins?

I do agree that the race should be longer, with the talent of the pros a race to seven is a coin flip.

Woody

P.S. I was just kidding bout the women not being able to run racks. Just wanted to get a rise out of one of my friends that reads this board and happens to be a woman LOL.
