Alltime best Drunk Pool Players!!!!

For actually drinking and playing Ronnie wins easily. He could go in a bar, and drink until they closed and win every game, and play better as the bet got higher. Keith is second here.

The best drunk act was by and old time player named Bill Mullen. He could be stone sober and convince you he was totally drunk. And he could act drunk and still run out looking funny. You had to see it to believe it.

Many old timers had this act down pat.

Old Pots&Pans had a pretty good act too. Only, he didn't drink.

Scotty Townsend

I saw Scotty Townsend in Port Arthur, Tx at players biliards in the big tournys they used to have.He was walking back and forth from a bar that was next door.He was sh--faced and we had to go get him to come and play when it was his turn. But the kicker is that he played like god still.

The late peru paul was passed out waiting on the point for the tournment. Somebody woke him up to play the finals and broke and ran the set out. He also put a 10 pack on Gary Spaith and came up dry and Gary ran the set out. The greatest final of a tourament in pool history. True story...

He won it too didn't he? About 3-4-5 years ago?

I wopuld also have to say Larry Liscotti. Saw him stone cold and he beat Evginy Stalev i pocket.............mike

And i believe Jimmy "Pretty boy Floyd" Mataya played pretty good when he was inebriated.......mike

Real funny story about Liscotti & Mataya....both were at the then BC Open in Binghamton. (RIP TO GP). anyway they were both to drunk to play so they decided to flip quarters for a c-note each. there were actually 4 of them doing this in the lobby of the Host Hotel. The Holiday Inn. Can't remember who the other 2 were. but to watch 4 grown men drunk and flipping quarters was unbelievably funny. so much arguing over what square or line they were shooting at. seemed that everytime Jimmy threw his quarter it went to far over the line and he claimed that he was shooting for the line above the real one. got so loud that the night person at the desk had to call the police to break it up....ps...liscotti i believe was the big winner.............mike

myne has to be my teammates LOL, but its true. They shoot some purdy good stick but they shoot even better once they have a few LOL. Sometimes on league nights they try to go without drinking and they can't play well so they eventually give in and buy some shots. I think its because they don't have any fear of missing or shooting tough shots, i don't but it works for them ...

Hello,
I'm sorry to say that I haven't heard of a lot of players mentioned in this thread (Ronnie Allen and Keith McCready being the main exceptions) but from what I've heard wouldn't "St. Louis" Louie Roberts qualify here? What a wonderful player he was- and I'm told that he was that good whether drunk, high or stone cold sober.

Chris (Chrstc).

Louie Roberts reminds me of Scotty. They both drank a lot and were well liked by most poolplayers. Both played/play very, very well.

If the bet is high enough and Scotty is well enough imbibed you might get to bet that he can not lift the back two wheels of a car, at the same time, totally off the ground. Remember, Scotty weighs a mere +/-160Lbs.
I am the same weight and I would bet that I can not lift the back 2 wheels of a car at least 12'inches off the ground and hold it for 10 seconds.

How are you, Black-Balled? Don't believe I said anything about 12" or 10 seconds. Kinda looks like you might be searching for a dime and your money back for that nickle. I believe most would be leary of a guy Scotty's size being able to get the wheels off the ground at all. So leary in fact that most "Nut Hunters" would pool their cash and post.

Ah but the real bet would he be able to lift the 2 wheels of the ground without pissing himself one way or the other..:D

This is a great hustle...if you think about it straight forward it is impossible...Of course the magic is in the method

Probably, but Scotty has a little different method for almost anything he does.
He is just hilarious and has the heart of a bull.

1) Keith MCcready
2) Scottie Townsend
3) Ronnie Allen
4) Rachel Abbink (Girl has as much heart and gamble as anyone!)
5)Bill Milke

Southpaw
The last time Rachel was in town, I heard her offer a wager to a good player who weighs around 300 lbs.

She said that each would do 8 shots of tequila, wait 15 minutes, and play a race to 7 for $500.

You're right Southpaw, that girl has as much gamble as anybody.

Bill Mielke. Another old roadie of mine. Wonder where and how he is.

He survived the van crash years ago, when we got hit by an Army truck. In the van were me, Keith, Cecil and Bill. It was all over the news in California.

I used to play with Bill some and we played craps together alot for a while about 8-10 years ago.
Last I heard Bill was around Dothan Al or Albany Ga. Not sure now. I last saw him a little over 3 years ago I believe in Dothan.

A couple friends of mine and myself still use the term "Mielke Roll" when playing dice. He used to like to bet 11 alot not even just on the comeout rolls but during play. It got to be that whenever he would make the bet
that the 11 would come out one roll later or the one right after he quit betting it-- Mielke Roll.
Bill was a helluva a player and had alot of knowledge. Straight he was a force. Most defintely Bill was and probably is a very fun guy to be around.

I would have to say Greenleaf would be my pick for best drunk player. Scotty is the best that I have actually seen but I have heard that RG could play great drunk and that he rarely played sober.

Scotty T

I funny Scooty story....

Scotty was playing at Dean Moore's place in Panama City Fl and
had been drinking heavily for a couple days.

He is playing a guy for 1500 in a race to 11. The guy is on the hill and
Scotty needs 5 games. The set is taking forever as Scotty is drinking like crazy and walking out back to a deck and taking breaks.

The guy he is playing breaks and jumps the table. Scotty heads out back with a few beers.
The guys friend tells him after about 15 minutes to go get him. The guy says to chill that he is on the hill and Scotty is drunk and getting drunker.

Another 15 minutes later Scotty comes in and loudly says something about the guy being on the Hill and he is just going to have to run the set out.

He runs that rack with BIH and then runs the rest of the set out. He pulls down the cash and walks to the bar and gets a shot. About 2 minutes later he is passed out!

A little later Dean is talking with the guys and tells him " I think you should have went and got him earlier..... he plays real good right before he passes out!!"
Scotty is one crazy SOB for sure. A movie of his life would be one wild ride.

One more Scotty story

I was at CJ's in Dallas a few years back watching a nine-ball tourney. There were some pretty strong players there including Jeremy Jones and Danny Bassavich. And there was Scotty with a drink in his hand. I was talking to the guy who was the TD, John McChesney (now desceased). I noticed a fellow a few feet away with a head about the size of a bread box, and said to John, "If there were to be a head-butting contest, I want to stake THAT quy," pointing at the guy with the big head. John looked me in the eye and said, "I know who I would stake in a head-butting contest, it would be Scotty Townsend for sure." Then John told a story about Scotty being in some bar down in Memphis, near the river, when someone offered to bet Scotty $100 he wouldn't jump off the bridge into the Mississippi River. A jump, by the way, that people have used to commit suicide. John said Scotty couldn't wait to run out of that bar and jump off the bridge to collect that $100!!! BTW, at the same tournament, Scotty said to me, "You know, I'm going to win this tournament." When I asked him how he knew that, he said, "Because of all the players here, I'm the most fluid." "The most fluid" is exactly what he said....straight story. I guess we know why he was so "fluid." Pardon any typos in this post as I am a bit "fluid" myself right now.

Frank,
Wow!!!! Anyone who has that said about him deserves at LEAST top 5. That's the funniest, left hand compliment I've ever heard in my life.
