Alone in the poolroom

Today was a great day weather wise, mid 70s bright sunshine. So i did not expect many people at the pool room. I got there at 1PM and besides the people working i was the only one playing pool. About 2PM a man and women came in and played on a bar table. Now i realize today was a spectacular day to be outside but in a metro area of 2 million plus you would think there would be a least a handful playing pool.

Even so, it's kind of nice to have the place all to yourself for awhile, isn't it? A man can get some serious thinking done. :)

I was thinking "What the hell am i doing here?"
I hate to play alone or practice so i play an imaginary player. I shoot till i miss or play safe then it's "his" turn and he does the same thing.
I think i need the 8, never have beat him.I lost $100 to him today.

I got something ! ! !

Dont know what you like to play but straightpool if you play by yourself take ball in hand for a break shot and run as many as you can when you miss rake em that is the key dont cheat yourself and you will find when you approach your high run you can duplicate the same kind of pressure as when you gamble or play in tournaments.

Just something if you get bored

Up here. I get to do this often. I walk in get the balls turn the tv off turn the jukebox off. I listen to what I'm doing and just feel the moment sometimes I don't even realize what I am doing or where I am. I let my mind go and come back and go. It is great!

I know exactly what you mean I use to do the exact same thing and never got tired doing it when ever possible!!!!:)

Then I opened my own room after I retired from the Army back in 2004. then I found out how much work go's into running a room, and repairing / building cues.:(

Man I wish I had the time to play like I use to, but I am living the life I wanted and even at it's worst I still love the sound of balls clicking upon contact and who could live without the veiled curses that are common place over a missed shot!!!!!!!!:D

I think his point is... what a shame that pool isn't popular enough to get, say, 10 (out of 2,000,000) people to come in from the sunshine and play a nice game of pocket billiards.

I completely agree, though the quality of the room may be a factor. Maybe there are 10 people playing... across town at the nicer pool hall.

Besides the fact that i hate to play alone, the main point was that out of 2 million people i was there alone. Wait i feel better now ! I'm one in 2 million.

That right there is the answere to why there hasnt been a big budget pool movie in 24 years, and why you never see pool on TV ads. Pool is dead, and nobody wants to bet on a dead horse,:(

Pool will always suffer during the spring and summer, regardless of it's level of popularity. People will always prefer to be outside doing whatever when it's a nice day. Even many pool fanatics play less during the summer. I expect Bowling takes a hit during the summer too.

Personally, when I have a day off and it's nice out I always go to the pool room because it's the best time to practice. I've got the entire place to myself.
