Alternatives to PayPal

I got screwed by PayPal.
They have about 1K in funds on hold for the next 180 days and those morons are not taking a step back to reinstate my account. One person used the word raffle when sending the payment and that did it.
They will be locking all raffle accounts very soon on AZ so be aware.
Does anybody have any alternatives to PayPal besides cash to take payments so it is easy for the regular internet person to use?
Thanks!

I have to agree with Lazerrus.

Can't people follow simple instructions when it comes to this shit? You always see it...DO NOT MENTION RAFFLE when you send payment.

You are the second person this has happened to in the last week or so.

I don't know of any other easy options, wish I could help ya Tony.

You might check into these:

Google Checkout - googlecheckout.com
Obopay - obopay.com
Ikobo - ikobo.com
Alertpay - alertpay.com
Amazon Payments - payments.amazon.com
Paysimple - paysimple.com

I am working on an alternative until I get a new account setup and setup a new PP account.
I will have a donation page soon so this way no other words can be included on the payment to PP.

I wonder though if it was written comments that triggered the investigation. Most likely it was receiving a bunch of payments of all the same amounts in a short time.

Do you have a business paypal account or a personal one? I wonder if that also can make a difference.

In Canada we have a system called EMT (email money transfer) its free and instant. All it uses is a password from the sender.

I HOPE they get it in the US soon and we can transfer between the US and Canada (highly unlikely on that second part)

As far as I have heard paypal deems it illegal to pay for raffles using them. Some people get slapped on the wrist, others get their account put on hold. It is a pain in the ass. You will see pretty much all raffles on here say something like do not put the word raffle in the description....hope you get things cleared up Tony.

Due to the Raffle Act, conducting such a business in the USA is illegal unless it is affiliated with a non-profit. I believe your non-profit has to have been established for 4 years before it can run raffles/drawings.

Paysimple is a good alternative to PP, BTW...

Raffles are illegal in California and most states. PayPal for some strange reason prefers for people not to transmit funds through them for illegal purposes. Regardless of how you mask it you are running the risk of having your PayPal account closed and being banned for life. If one unsuccessful bidder decides to charge you back for the funds he sent PayPal for your raffle and tells PayPal in the dispute that is was a raffle, PayPal will look at your account, determine that you are involved in illegal activities and do what any corporation does when they discover their product being used illegally, they stop it. Open a new PayPal account in your wife's name? Not if she lives with you, not if you shared any linked PayPal accounts.

If your only use for PayPal is to run raffles than its no big risk, but if you like having the account because EVERYONE in the world has one and its a great easy safe way to conduct legal business, then you might want to think twice before you run a raffle and accept PayPal for it. The workaround is setting up fraudulent bank accounts which some would say isn't that great an idea, or setting up with other pay services that nobody uses.

Most raffles are illegal. In most (all?) states, they are a form of illegal gambling. I think some states permit them for certified 501(c)3 charities.

There was a raffle for a pool table at the BCA Trade Show in Las Vegas one year. The proceeds were going to the Billiard Education Foundation (BEF) which gives college scholarships to young pool players, and I'm pretty sure is a 501(c)3. The Nevada gaming control people shut them down. Nevada permits only the kinds of gaming they control.

Heard something about echeck. Flat fee I think?? Never investigated tho.

I use echeck to withdraw from Pokerstars and have had no problems YET. The check has come from several different locations, and usually gets to me between 1-2 weeks. I would assume there is a cap on how much they can send out at a time, but don't quote me on that...
