Am I wrong to be pissed?

here is some official guidlines

guy Im playing has to elevate to hit a shot, light is in his way. Player on my team holds light out of his way til he gets shot off! I flip out lose game and match because im soooo pissed. Am I wrong! never seen anything like this. wont again because i will never play with this guy again.:angry:

Without discussing it too much:

This kind of issue is actually covered by the WPA Regulations (an addition to the World Standarized Rules)

WPA Regulations
8. Instructions for Referees
The referee will determine all matters of fact relating to the rules, maintain fair playing conditions, call fouls, and take other action as required by these rules. The referee will suspend play when conditions do not permit fair play. Play will also be suspended when a call or ruling is being disputed. The referee will announce fouls and other specific situations as required by the rules. He will answer questions as required by the rules on matters such as foul count. He must not give advice on the application of the rules, or other points of play on which he is not required by the rules to speak. He may assist the player by getting and replacing the mechanical bridge. If necessary for the shot, the referee or a deputy may hold the light fixture out of the way.
When a game has a three-foul rule, the referee should note to the players any second foul at the time that it occurs and also when the player who is on two fouls returns to the table. The first warning is not required by the rules but is meant to prevent later misunderstandings. If there is a scoreboard on which the foul count is visible to the players, it satisfies the warning requirement.

Also, if You check point 5. Playing with an “Area” Referee, You will find out that if the Referee is not present:
... The non-shooting player will perform all of the duties of the referee...

It's good sportsmanship! Like someone else said, the light should not be an obstacle.
Would you still be pissed if your opponent used a bridge, he holds the bridge down with his knee up on top the table, holds the light with one hand, and masse's or jumps the shot with his other hand? :D

I believe we are getting things a little mixed up here.

In team play, I do not want my teammates assisting the enemy. They have teammates to do that.

In single player format I would have no problem holding the light for an opponent.

Remember the thread where the teammate offered the opponent their bridge? Come on, that's treason.:wink:

To the op: I think you are taking this way to seriously. Talk to you teammate and work it out. The guy was just being nice to another human. Ask him to get the team spirit.

Are you wrong to be pissed? Only to the extent that it starts to affect your game. Rein in that game-killing emotion or at least leave it in your chair till you're done playing. You can pick it up later if it's still there.

Please tell me you wouldn't have a problem with a teammate letting someone use their bridge?

If you play better than someone or your team is better, you don't need little things like "let them find their own bridge" to win, and you should probably reevaluate how you define "teem spirit."

Hopefully this wasn't a very serious post.

No Vapool, I would not have a problem with it, but some do.

I think, when playing on a team a person should consider the feelings of their teammates before they just jump in and do something.

As I said, I think the op over reacted a bit, but I do understand where he is coming from. At least I think I do.

:

If a pool hall does not provide a bridge, it should be charged with Height Discrimination.
Where are the Politically Correct Police when they are really needed?

He wrong to be pissed about someone holding the light in general. One, its sportsmanlike to do so, and two, world rules say its ok.

He had absolutely no reason to be pissed at all.....

We're on the same page. The point I was trying to make was that setting aside your emotions, even for a while, may let reason take over instead of anger. Sometimes you don't feel the same way after a while. Why let it ruin your game so you have 2 invalid excuses to be upset?

Skiergirl back on AZB! Long time, wondered about you and how your game was going.....

To the original point, really? Unless this was a hard core, high stakes gambling match with appropriate stipulations, its another piece of furniture. Who cares if its someone on your team or theirs that holds it, do you think your guy is going to hold it better than their guy would?

I realize that I'm not terribly experienced, but I'm trying to envision a shot where the light would have to be moved....but I only play on 9-footers. Perhaps that's why?

And yes, there was a thread almost exactly like this a while ago....I double checked the date on this OP to make sure I wasn't reading the old one again!

I only play on 9'ers with huge lights on chains. If I was playing a serious game and there was a coalition of people swinging the light out of the way so my opponent could ridiculously jack-up mid-table, I wouldn't allow it nor would anyone on this forum.

Why are barboxes different?

Sorry, it's part of the table and isn't meant to be moved. This sounds like hillbilly pool to me.

All my years playing, I've never moved a light. Light blocks an absurd jack-up = select another shot.

This is me laughing at you. It's appropriate to laugh at clowns, right?

I don't think he's a clown. Moving lights is goofy. Must be a bar league thing....of which I'm not familiar.

Without knowing the layout of the place, it seems to me that the light must be installed badly, in order to be in the way at all.

If so, why should it be a problem for someone to move it, if it shouldn't be there in the first place?

No, you are not wrong. The light was there when you both started, right? The light is part of the table:eek: JB

I do not understand why people say if it was a serious game, high stakes or US open it would be different. How is this different for a friendly game you play with your buddy? do you not follow the rules if its friendly or a gambling match? do you not have sportsmanship if its for funsies or a serious match? How could it possibly be different? I cant rap my head around that logic.

Yes, you are 100% wrong, in so many ways.
