Amateur or Pro has nothing to do with ability

Hey Russ- you did say some things about Brian that weren't very nice. Are you going to reply to any of the questions, i.e., when Brian "robbed" amateur tourneys, etc. It seems only fair that you should give the evidence, since you already kind of dragged his name through the mud.-Matt

If I misunderstood in Brian's particular case...

Sorry. That's about as much as yer gonna get out of me.

I just get kind of tired of hearing people blame everything in the world for the downturn of pool, when it is as simple as this. "People have more things to do with their time than to practice in a smoke filled pool hall for 5-6 hours a day, day after day, and DONATE to better players in Open tournaments."

Society as a whole is not interested in pool any more. I hate it, but I am not going to whine about it. I am going to appreciate what tournaments ARE held for my benefit, and I am NOT going to whine if I don't make my rent off the tournament, no matter how much I've practiced.

For the record, I know for a fact that two of the posters in this and the other thread have enjoyed beating up on the lesser players. One of them even bragged about how he would make sure to go to every amateur tournament so he could club the baby seals afterward matching up, with people that had NO chance.

That's all good, if that's what you're into. But guys like that are *****ing and griping about just wanting to compete. Horsesh!t.

B Whizzle, sorry if I lumped you in with those two. I can definitely say I don't agree with your stance that you think that amateur tourneys are bad for the game as a whole. I think saying that there will soon not be ANY Open events because of amateur tournaments is a "slippery slope" argument.

And even IF there are fewer Open events because A and B players decide to go to compete with others at their skill level, what of it? There are MUCH fewer Open class players out there than players that would qualify for the amateur events.

I think if an Open class player wants to compete abd enough, there are plenty of tournaments in all the more populated states. And that's where I stand. :D

Russ

P.S. And if the apology seemed a little backhanded, I'll just say that the idea that B level players should be forced to contribute to Open class players pocketbooks if they want to compete, is pretty offensive to me. That's how I interpreted your first post.
