Amazing 8-BALL "CHEAT CODE" ... 2nd-Ball-Break with a Side Gap to Pocket the 8

FYI, I just posted a new video that demonstrates another "cheat code" for the 8-ball break (see my previous thread also), using a 2nd-ball break with a gap on either side of the 8 ball. The break gives you about a 1-in-5 chance to pocket the 8 in the side, and often results in a shot and a chance to run out after the break. Check it out:

Enjoy!

obviously the march of progress goes on whether we like it or not, but the whole idea that people can gain an advantage by spending time (i.e. slowing down matches by) peering at the rack or, worse, manipulating the rack is obnoxious and bad for pool.

The good news is that making the 8 ball on the break is not a game winner in most legit tournaments and leagues.

I love me some Dr. Dave. But it is funny how the YouTube ecosystem just begs for clickbait behaviors. It’s a total “when in Rome” environment.

Valid concerns and good points.

It still helps to be knowledgeable so somebody doesn't try to pull something on you. It also helps to read a rack, especially when you are racking for yourself, where it doesn't really take extra to see natural gaps in the rack.

Great series on barbox 8 ball! Kudos to you. It's not the game of the elite pros, but it's played by a lot of people.

I’m glad I did the series. I learned some things too. Bar box 8-ball is my favorite game, and I am always trying to improve.
Dr. Dave,
Could you tell me/us "why" bar box pool is your favorite game? (Pretty sure I know, but would like to hear it from you).

Here are some of the things I like about 8-ball on a bar box:
- lots of diverse and interesting situations
- lots of opportunity for creativity and strategy
- CB control and finesse skills are rewarded
- shot making skills aren’t as important
- running out is fast and fun and almost always possible

So to summarize having knowledge and using 5 seconds to apply it is a bad thing?

So to summarize you think this is good for pool?

So much fun to watch players look at the rack and argue about it instead of playing shots

The rack is a means to an end. It should not be an arena for gaming the system or trying to get an advantage.

I’ll check the video when I have a chance to listen. Too noisy where I’m at.

There’s excess in all parts of the game.

But a rack is part of the game like it or not. If someone learns to play better off of rack gaps then anyone can do it. So be it. There’s always going to be evolutions of how people win and gain a competitive edge.

Combating it has evolved too. What next? Eliminate the racks like the NFL tried to eliminate kickoffs? Ehhh 🤷‍♂️

Racking knowledge can also be used to negate someone who is looking for these advantages, less so from this video, as you point out that the 8 on the break rarely is a win anymore. But his video(s) on the 9 ball rack, can be used to help stop the 9 going on the break or a more wired wing ball, as in the Shane - Jayson video in this thread. I've played on very few tables where a completely tight rack can be done. So, I will try to avoid these gaps more than others.

I believe all knowledge is good. How it is applied, goes to a person's character. I don't think that changes because of a bit more or less knowledge.

Well you people like hustlers (glorified cheaters) and if you don’t check their rack guarantee they will house rack the shit out of you. Lol

FYI, I featured this fiasco in the following video and in my “How to Rack and Break 9-Ball Like a Pro” article (BD, March, 2018).

We play barbox 8ball and I found with new slick cloth the 2nd ball break is great. As the cloth got older I noticed the corner ball going long time after time.
I moved cueball further out from the side rail and the corner ball is on again.

Do you think this is because the balls aren't racking quite as well on the worn cloth?

I haven't noticed this pattern before. I'll give it a try when I can find some time. Are you hitting the 2nd ball with the same fullness from the new CB position, or slightly thinner?
