Amazing pool shots from Efren Reyes

Personally, I agree with Poolbum's post.

I also wonder if this was really new, slippery, cloth. That would explain why the cueball drifted up table so much before the top spin took over. What do I know though.

That was a cool video. Thanks for posting it. Part II is listed in the "related videos", in case anyone didn't notice it. :)

this is unbelievable!!!!

with the unbelievable amount of knowledge here...i can't believe you all guys are saying it's a top right or 2:00 right english...

you can try that shot all year with top right and 2:00 right and you can never get the effect efren got on that shot.

guys..its bottom right with follow effect...(try this with cue ball closer to the object ball)

this is not sputnik either....

what's happening here on my beloved AZ...

i just tried this shot(exact layout) with bottom right with follow-effect and it worked the first time...very hard shot when long distance like effie did..

i tried the short version but same layout

It's top left. You can get the curve action with center top, but the cueball will not slow down enough to wind up behind the 7 like Efren did. With top right you get even less curving action, and the cueball will still have too much speed on it. The top left acts as reverse English, top right is running english. The tape that Efren made this shot was against Tony Ellin. Ellin ends up beating Efren, but the first time I saw this match a few years ago, I practiced the shot quite a bit. If you think you can duplicate that shot with top right, or bottom right, (lol) and still get as much curve as Efren got, you have a bet. Make a video and post it up.

"Sputnik" is the Filipino term for that kind of CB action/reaction.

....and to tell you, gopi, you are one fine Pinoy source of information! It's that Spainiard blood in us about billiards!! ;):D

I can easily duplicate the shot with just a force follow stroke and no English (getting shape on the 7 would probably take a few tries though). The cueball comes off the bottom cushion heading up table to the viewer's right. The force follow is in the opposite direction, so that when the follow takes, the cueball naturally travels to the side cushion and out for the 7. There is no need for any left English on this shot, IMO, and it doesn't seem to me in viewing the tape that Efren uses left English when he shoots through the cueball either. Why do you think that left English is required to execute the shot?

I definately agree that you can do the shot with force follow, but my main point is the cueball slowing down after the huge curve. The reverse english helps that. When I first saw the shot I just had to figure out how to do it. Like you said before, you have to hit it with the right stroke. I can do this with force follow also, but I can't get the cueball to slow down enough to actually hold shape on the 7 like Efren did, without using reverse english.

I believe it was derived from the gang Sputnik's favorite weapon.
Indian pana'.:D

So what do I need to put on the ball to do this shot  :p

I tried the shot tonight with high follow, same angle, and almost got the same results.

Now go try it with follow.

i can't believe this...

growing-up in the Philippines..seeing the hustlers practice...i have learned this shot when i was very young..you can use it in limited situation --this is a very aggressive and very difficult shot to execute...

but i thought --people here in AZ would be aware of the bottom right/bottom left with force follow effect shot...

Efren is very good in executing this shot...better than anyone...but in The Philippines...a C player can execute this very well...

i'm amazed at the negative reaction i saw here about the bottom right forced follow...

lol? bottom right? you must have one broken stroke.

..i was amazed at your ignorance on this shot....i guess this is the difference between the pinoy pro players and some wannabes ...

..i did not think that this shot is not known here...(i have actually seen earl execute this shot on my dvd several times...

cubc and david beck...i wished you can visit houston and try my 'one broken stroke' for some 5k...maybe you can teach me something...(i'm always for learning)

for my fellow pinoys here- gopi and joey....

sirs--with all due respect..this is not anywhere near the sputnik...

sputnik ...(this was discussed before)...is where you shoot a shot table length with cue ball almost frozen to the rail and make the cue ball not move away from the other end of rail..

for joey...the reason why it was called sputnik..(has nothing to do with the notorious gang in RP)...it came from the Russian satellite 'sputnik'- where sputnik just kindof hang around the orbit and won't fall or go anywhere...(amazing anology anyways- (a testament i guess of higher education in the RP-Phil.)
