Amazing Tooled Cases - Made in China!!

Talent is talent and it doesn't matter what part of the world you reside in. It knows no boundaries.

I've said it before that I'm not a "case person", but I absolutely enjoy seeing craftsmanship!!! The first case is completely awe-inspiring - not that the others aren't! I was also glad to see that both the praise and constructive criticism were equally well-received!

p.s. I was going to say that first case looked "killer"...but I figured someone would say I was going to hell for saying that...so I'm not going to!

Amazing work! If the construction lives up to the art, it's a clear winner. I like the use of the coins as well.

Nice carving designs.

It's nice to see all that saddle stitching, but the holes punched for the stitches are entirely too large. This makes for an easier time doing a double needle stitch of course, but it isn't the ideal. Saddle stitching does not require holes to be punched, it can be done with an awl, but if stitch holes are punched they should be the smallest needed for the stitches. The stitches should be tight in the holes. In addition, there is no groove laid for the stitch line so the stitches are proud of the surface of the leather which leaves them exposed to abrasion and snagging. This is simply less reliable and less durable.

The engineering of the cases is very cool I think. Several are very unique. Quite remarkable.

There is debate among leather workers as to this and while some hold your views others are using the same techniques that this maker did with success and no adverse effects even after many years of use.

I think that the close up images make the holes seem bigger than they are. In any event this guy has a ton of experience making other leather goods and you can be assured that he knows how to saddle stitch using an awl to make the incisions into the leather.

Chinese people are incredibly picky when it comes to high end expensive goods. They pore over every detail and don't hesitate to complain. If these cases were not superbly made then it would already be known among the community. In fact there are several crappy case makers operating in China at the moment and they are known for building junk among the Chinese billiard community.

For what's it's worth we don't use a punch or an awl. We use a needle to make our holes. We use a sewing machine to punch the leather with even spaced holes. Then we use a needle in a drill to auger out the holes one at a time. Then we sew by hand. This is for the spots which require hand-sewing.

Personally I think that the way these are done will probably hold up just fine. I do agree that exposed thread/linen line is not as good as recessed line but for the intended use and the quality of the line used I think that this might be enough. I guess the customers who use them will find out in a year or two.

I think the cases look amazing!! I really like the color and contrast of the designs. Gives the pieces A LOT of depth!!

So does the casemaker have a website -- and price sheet --

He doesn't have any website or price sheet. He doesn't speak English at all either.

His cases generally start from $1000 without freight or anything. So it all depends on design and how much work goes into the case.

I must say his designs are gorgeous. That is some real top notch work. It is good to see quality stuff like this coming from china vice the usual knock offs over and over again.

New Chinese Style Case...

Despite being in China and from China, the maker of these cue cases has never attempted a Full on Chinese Style/Theme Case before. This is his very first attempt and well there's a bunch of story behind it and the reason for 9 peony flowers going into the case...it's a long story and i'm too lazy to translate. But it's a meaningful case for sure, and definitely one that the maker has put alot of thoughts into. Enjoy!
