one of my favorite events. peter burrows does a good job keeping 14.1 alive.
there are some notable absentees compared to last year but still a stout field in terms of straight pool pedigree. nice to see mike davis in the list. biado i don't remember seeing play straight pool ever. will be interesting
He needs to get together with MR and make this event what it deserves to be. Needs to be a true world-class 14.1 trophy.
Matchroom only cares about 9 ball.; Why would they back up a straight pool tournament? If anything, the WPA missed out huge on not adding extra money to this event and helping promote it to their base of players.
I'm surprised to see Michael Yednak, Del Sim, Hunter Lombardo and Bob Keller are not in this event. They usually always make this tournament.
MR cares about one thing, money. I think if they could take darts to where its at $$ wise they could easily do the same for 14.1 I don't see it happening soon i was just saying it would be nice if they got involved.
Even ignoring the matter that Matchroom is all-in at 9ball, I believe this is a WPA sanctioned event. Hence, beginning in 2024, Matchroom players will be barred from participation.

The added money for the American 14.1 is not large enough to rise to the level where it gets any calendar protection. As a world championship it would but that is very pricey. Besides, the 9-ball event that is running concurrently in Virginia has no sanctioning and consequently no restriction on it's timing. I'm pretty sure that the plan was to be just before the International Open to be a warm-up and attract a lot of the international players, a lot like the plan for the 14.1.
As for anyone getting barred, it's unclear how that is going to unfold.
Biado has played in a few straight pool events:
2022 Am. 14.1 -- he made it to the Final 24, beating Appleton there, but then lost his next match to eventual champ Jungo.
2017 US Open Straight Pool Championship -- finished 5th-8th (won by Corteza).
2016 Am. 14.1 -- finished 3rd/4th. Made it to the Final 24, then beat Peach, Hohmann, and Alcaide before losing to Immonen in a semifinal match.
[A couple of Biado's round-robin wins were against Bob Jewett, who may have chosen to forget those upsets.]

I know it is his intention to keep it as an invitational, but maybe Peter Burrows should consider having this as an open. There are some really good 14.1 players that I'm surprised are not there like Danny Harriman, Bob Hunter, John Schdmit, Rhys Chen and Steve Lipsky. Not to mention the Bayshore Billiards 14.1 league has some really solid players who run 100s on a consistent basis.
Regardless, this is a must see for me. And one day, maybe I'll be good enough to play in this.

I enjoy watching this. 14.1 is deader than disco in my area so i rarely get to play/see it.
