American Straight Pool Championship - Oct 19th to 23rd *free* live streaming

Stu, while I get your point that the run is supposed to stop when the match ends
"Supposed to" is arbitrary. If the rules of the tournament state that the competitor can continue his run after locking up the game in order to make an attempt at the event's high run prize, then that's the new "supposed to".

At my house, we play almost exclusively cash game straight pool to 100. Part of what we do is that the high run holder for the day gets credit for an extra win at the end of the day, and we allow the shooter to continue past 100 to try to reach this goal. It's a bit of fun and I can't see how it harms the game in the least.

If there is a 100+ run and the player wants to keep going and the spectators want to watch, then what's the problem? High runs are awesome and fun to watch.

Snooker games go on well past the point of no return in order to watch the player try for a 147 or some other high score.
Exactly my thoughts as well....

A couple streams starting soon:

Facebook - Zielinski vs. Immonen
Youtube - Gorst vs. Thweib (FR 621)

On another note, kinda looks like SVB is running all these balls with his break cue with his shooting shaft on it....
Could be something new...

An interesting -- certainly spectator-amazing -- and challenging, inclusion for a pro 14.1 tournament that has many tables available (as this one does), would be a special prize-money award for players who -- after they've reached the winner point designated as 125 or 150 -- continue running till they repeat that winner point, achieving the special prize amount. They then keep running to see how far they can continue past that -- towards a dollar amount equal to say, $50 for every point past the 250 or 300 points they've already run. That would be, as composited, a hefty total amount for that day's total take-home cash. Would also make for a mesmerizing and totally authentic, best-selling, highly instructional DVD with commentary simultaneous or voice-overed by the player + professional commentator(s). Worldwide, folks who buy the DVD (or purchase-able stream) get to see a commentated possible 350- or 400-ball (or even longer) run, as it actually did once happen live and unedited in front of many dozens of in-person spectators within the venue of a world competition.

I'm sure this will start a ruckus.., the commentators were talking how this field is without question the strongest field for a 14.1 tournament... EVER.... go...

If one doesn't read this like they are listening a hype-ass infomercial, then they did it wrong. Thanks for that today though :ROFLMAO: (y)

Unfortunately too many announcers try to act like they always have to declare something as the greatest ever. That standard crap was coming out of Culhane a lot in one stream yesterday.

Also prior to the first stream yesterday I got on right before the match started and as the commentators (the Franks?) were finishing up their spiel it sounded as if they were implying this was a WPA World Championship and the winner could consider themselves the world champion. Not sure they understand that just because this is a WPA "sanctioned" event doesn't make it a tier 1 sanctioned WPA world championship. This has no where near that level of money in it that the WPA taxes at to be consider a world championship.

Where is The Dragon?

Gorst had a 123-ball run to win 125-0. Still going here:

womp womp, Gorst just missed.

Why was the run continued?

As far as high run, this is a run of 125 and out. At the Dragon 14.1 event one year, Evgeny Stalev ran what I believe was 151 and out and continued up to 224, but for the purpose of the high run prize, his run was counted as 151, just as it should have been.

Balls run after the end of a match are for practice, and are ultimately meaningless. Appleton's 200 and out against Bustamante remains the competitive record for high run.

My answer is for the fans that were watching and to see how far he would get.

* or not it was nice for the few that saw it...plus it is going to be saved for future viewing as far as I know.

I mean, every snooker century and 147 is invalid/pointless according to this argument because it was not relevant for deciding the winner of the game.
The difference is that in snooker, those are stats that are recorded for historical reference. In straight pool, running centuries or even 50s have never been recorded. If you ask me, maybe someone should consider hosting an event like Dennis Walsh and Bill M did at the derby if all of a sudden people are hungry for straight pool high runs.

My main question/concern would be how are they handling high run prizes or recognition with respect to 150 or 200 and outs? Currently there are runs in excess of 200 but surely a 150 and out or a 200 and out should get precedence.

Just watched the run by Fedor Gorst and to me it looks like the tables are playing quite slow compared to equipments of other events...?

if it’s a typo, there are several not just one
