You seem pretty sure about this, so I won't argue. But there's always tomorrow, and you might just catch a stroke.

Keep writing it and you will believe it!

Saying and especially writing things that you don't really mean can be deadly. Your subconscious doesn't understand jokes or modesty, real or false. At most acknowledge you had a bad game, match, or night and move on.

My play is unacceptable to me right now for a double handful of valid reasons. Writing this for you makes me realize that I haven't been following my own rules lately though. I'll be banishing negative comments and thoughts from the poolhall, starting today! No sense making my play even worse with a negative self image.

If we all didn't suck at times in our own world of competence, we would never push to learn to get to the next level. Just imagine what you think is sucky play, and what Thorsten Hohman thinks is sucky play. He probably think only running 100 sucks!:D

I was practicing before opening the pool room one morning, and one of the local guys was having coffee and racking for me. I ran maybe 35/40/60, and was pissed. He just said, I'll never get to 30.....and your pissed at 60? I learned a new way to look at things that day:D

With that attitude, he won't. However, if he just concentrates on running the balls, one at a time, and thinking ahead, and just maybe playing with a slightly slower tip, it could well happen for him...

And after his first 30, just keep on shooting, without paying attention to how many balls were run, just keep potting 'em... A couple of weeks ago a friend and I were shooting, and in the midst of a rack I figured out how to pot a very long cut shot off the rail and down went the ball. My shooting partner said something like "I don't know why you aren't running 50 balls..." He's right. I don't either, but I've a clue, and the solution is probably in the 6 inches between my ears.

This game's way mental...

Thanks guys for the advice and insight guys.

Randy- let me know when you come around the Ottawa area and I would certainly be interested.

Pooltchr- LOL I think I'll need the 2,3,4,5,6,7,8.

My problem last night was actually three fold. The first was that the last time I played (last saturday) I played an incredible straight pool match, and followed it up with a great set of 9 ball. So my expectations were a little high coming into last nights session. When I notice I am not playing up to last weeks standard I start getting down on myself.

The next part of the problem is that in a 4-6 hour session I never take breaks. I get fatigued and I can't keep up my standard of play

Lastly every time I hit a shot the cue ball skidded :D :D :D :D :D :D

That is too so true. I had a similar experiance a little while back. I think we sometimes look so far ahead to where we want to go and forget how far we have come.

Not to mention the fact that I always think I should be playing at 100% of my ability ALL THE TIME!....not the case. Especially when gambling I had to learn not to make games based on my 100% shooting ability. That was something I picked up from Gradys tape on Money Pool. Setting up a match based on maybe 75% shooting level....I had room to breath, not to mention hold back a little if I needed to step it up...

I think that's good advice Gerry!

We all wish we could play like the pros, the way we see them when they're in stroke, but fact is even most pros struggle from time to time.

A sign of a great player is that they can win even when they know they are not shooting great. So they take the double option routes, or avoid that win or lose tough shot. They wait until they know they can feel the table and see the lines, and then they can go to the zone / take on the harder shots choices that give big rewards if executed right.

Patience, acceptance and optimism are paramount.

I agree good post gerry.

It's something that I am slowly, ever so slowly, beginning to understand. And when I do I will be able to handle the awful days much better.

On the other hand when I finally buy my table I'll be able to play more, but also be more willing to walk away and take a break if things aren't going too well.

I played much better tonight. Ran 4 and out in 8 ball, which is my new personal best at the game. My form is still very spotty, but I have realized that a lot has to do with my alignment. I'm gonna get back on Snooker table next week and practice my long potting, that should help a bit.

Alignment? Poooooh... If you are having alignment problems and running centuries in snooker, I may as well give up the idea of fixing mine anytime in the next decade. It's literally making me climb the walls...

That's without mention of the fact that my eyes play tricks on me almost every shot. What the hell? I suck!

LOL. It might make you feel better to know that its still century plural. Haven't been able to do it again since *sigh*. The only way I can do it these days is if I move the balls around when no one is looking.:D

Wow, that is profound. Thank you.

You are an excellent player!
You are an excellent player!
You are an excellent player!

The little train that could...

Every time I play a tournament, I can find something good I did. Something I have been working on and was able to do well.

So I may go two and out, but there may have been one shot I made which I was quite happy with. The shot made my night and I'm quite happy with myself.
