shot with low center left english going rail first brings the ball across then then the spin takes it the rest of the way. not a real hard stroke shot. practiced it for about 20 mins and can do it with ease now. i like shooting this shot better than going top or drawing it back 1 rail or even straight back, it seems like an easier stroke shot.

how would you shoot it?

Three rail follow seems very routine here. The stun draw to the short side is probably to be avoided. There are times when the shot you suggest is the best choice, and it's a shot well worth knowing, but I'm not going rail first here if it's nt necessary.

well lets just say the 8 was the 7 and the 9 was the 8 and the 9ball was blocking the path going top :D

Personally I would shoot this with draw 5 times out of 10 and top 5 out of 10 times (depending on table contitions and location of the 9). But it is a good shot to have in your arsenal. I would never shoot it as diagrammed for the cheese -> even if a ball was blocking the top rail. On unfamiliar equipment this is a jawed ball waiting to happen.

This shot is also quite useful when the next ball is on the long rail. It comes up in one pocket often. You can shoot with top or bottom to get workable results.

When Larry Schwartz got his Cog Cue in 92 he was showing me this shot and I was fireing it in on a4" pocket GC table 16 in Cue-Topia in Vegas. I was playing with a Tad then but I couldnt get it done with that cue only Larrys
 
man i can tell from the pictures you guys play on faster equipment than i do.

i don't like using draw with that shot i'd rather shoot the shot traced out in red.
 
I also love the inside draw shot. If you set it up as a proposition shot, like TD's second diagram, people will fail it a lot until you tell them the secret of going rail first.

I want to say I usually follow this railfirst but I'm not sure until I get down over the shot. The railfirst means you don't have to hit it so hard. The nice thing about follow is that if you really force it you can bend the CB's path to get a little further down the table than the red line in TD's other diagram. On generous tables, you can also intentionally overcut the railfirst shot a bit and bobble the 8 in, which translates to getting further down the table.
 
I'll rail balls in if I like the running shape,even if its not this extreme so I'm pretty familiar with the concept.

But I gotta say,for me it be lots o' bottom,lots o' right and stroked into the right hand side of the hole (from the shooters perspective).If I don't get back on the nine (at least low enough to play it,if not bottom railed) with that,I'd be genuinly suprised.

Although,it is equipment dependent,so is all the rail bounce and travel needed for the "rail in" running left imo.If one works,so should the other me thinks.
 
3 cusion shot

ive been playing 3 cushion for a couple of years now and it is kinda cool to see shots that are standard fair on a cushion table used for pool.

when it comes to position play i think all should have to play cushion to learn to move the rock around the table!
