An Intro by a rookie, from Sydney Australia

Hi, I've been lurking for a while now, and the time has come for me to contribute to this fine community :)

My name is Duke, I've been playing Pool on and off for years, however,
In the past 12 months, I've been taking my staff (including myself) out for Pool games, averaging 10hours of practice a week, as 'Team Building'. I've been encouraging everyone to do Pool comps and keep practicing/sharing thoughts, ideas and the odd trick shots to keep us fresh. All in all, I'm obsessed with it and plan to take it as far as I can :p

So, HEY EVERYONE!!!

P.s. Does anyone know where I can buy decent Pool cues in Sydney??? (Such as Predator, Poison, Fury, Lucassi, McDermott etc.)
Currently, we're just getting by with a Dufferin maple stick... Which honestly, is closer to a snooker cue than a pool cue (9mm tip... Spliced butt... Works well with the tiny barbox balls we have here, though)

hey man,
Stuart Rogers at Cueworld (sr@cueworld.com.au) has some good cues. He is out in the Hills area but runs a pool league around the city. He carries OB, predator, mezz, poison etc.
Or if you're around the city, swing by cityheroes pool hall on George Street right under the Event Cinemas.
Ask for walter. they sell some predators and mezz (amongst others).
There are also websites like http://www.cuesforpool.com.au/ where you'll get pretty much anything you are after.

Thanks akane :)

I(we) frequent City Heroes quite often, and I'm probably going to purchase a Fury from them, but the last guy I had helping me out wasn't so helpful. He was nice, but I don't think he knows his products well enough. (I wanted to know if they stocked any Fury NR series ... the answer I got was: 'I've never heard of the NR Series, are you sure you're talking about Fury?' ... So I shut up after that lol...

I'll check out the others, thanks mate !

well i will keep an eye out for you, i am in cityheroes quite a bit myself, between league and upcoming tournaments.
if you are in cityheroes, the only guy worth speaking to is Walter (he runs the place) he's a solid guy.
i'm not sure if stuart stocks Fury, he may well do. i was at his place a while back and he had a few cues in the cabinet, but i didnt pay too much heed to everything. i see he has fury nr on the cueworld website, but whether or not he has them in stock, i couldnt tell you.

Hey mate.

Michael from Cuesforpool does pretty good prices and decent shipping rates, check out his website.

He sponsors the nsw 8 ball league.

Hey, Duke. Welcome aboard. This is a good place to hang out, learn about what's going on around the world of pool, hear good stories, and win cash and valuable prizes.

Hello there :)
First, are you planning to play on regular or bar tables? If you're doing well on a barbox with your existing cue, why change? If you really need a new one, have you tried looking online for offers in your region? After all, you should remember one thing: it's not about the weapon, it's all about the hand which wields it. Have a nice day ;)

Hey Duke, welcome to the craziness of the forums; you'll definitely have an interesting time. :)

G'day Mate, and welcome to Azb! I buy all my cues online or here on AZB. Enjoy!

Hey PP,
It does work fine on the little barboxes, but not so great on the full sized tables... but, really it's just an excuse because I want more gear lol

Thank you all for the warm welcomes,
We play almost on a daily basis. After close, I take the crew down to the local bar, grab a few jugs of beer, and we'll play pool until we've had enough :)

I find it an excellent way for us to form a strong bond, yet learn how to compete with each other without falling apart. There's definitely the high sense of personal achievement as well as the openness to share our thoughts and ideas without barriers.

If there was room in my restaurant, I'd put a pool table in it :p

sydney

mate, i'm located in Australia Melbourne. try cueworld, the man does pretty good price and let you try the cues out at tournaments.

Dukes
Considering the amount you and your colleagues play, have you considered combining the effort and putting a team in the league?

Tickets have just informed me that there's a NSW 8ball League in my area so that'll be on the list of things to aim for, that's for sure :)

I'll have to go watch a couple of events and see where we stand.
Right now, we're just managing to hold the tables for the night, and making finals or winning the Pool comps at the pub every other week, which isn't anything great.

I think, until we can run a whole rack of 14.1 - we'll keep practicing before we make a full out of ourselves at the leagues :P

well the 2 leagues that run in the city are both handicapped which is great and means all skill levels are catered for.
both have end of season prizes - the overall season winners getting a paid trip to Vegas. one league sends to VNEA. the other to BCA.
both leagues are a couple of weeks into the current season so you'd have time ahead of the next one if you were interested. you should go along and have a look one night. it's great fun.
as for events - they are pretty regular. the next one is August 25th - its a NSW 10ball event.
